Holy moly. You'll likely already be sold with the Lake District location of welcoming Church Stile Farm Holiday Park, in the midst of superbly scenic Wasdale with close-by climbing and kayaking on Scafell Pike and Wastwater. But a hard day clambering and kayaking is always best followed by a fine ale and supper at a local watering hole, so you'll likely be sold all the more with Church Stile’s setting only two minutes’ walk from the pub in local hamlet Nether Wasdale, and a licensed riverside café too. Praise be. All is praiseworthy on site too: Church Stile Farm Holiday Park covers about seven acres of a spacious oak woodland and wildlife-laden setting, with venerable views of the Wasdale valley and the Screes mountain range. Facilities are kept to high standards and include free hot showers in separate ladies’ and gents’ washrooms, free hairdryers (for both ladies and gents, hurrah), and a disabled/family room with baby changing unit. The laundry room has a free freezer for ice blocks, a token-operated washing machine and a dryer. To keep the kids happy when they’re not sorting out the laundry, there’s a well-equipped play area with swings and climbing frames, a grass area for ball games, and a woodland area adjacent to the site for wildlife spotting and walks. Picnic tables are dotted around the park and barbecues/firepits are available to hire (pick up essentials for the barbie in the shop and some wood from the Church Stile team, or venture to the farm shop a few minutes' walk away).

Em va agradar Even though I arrived a bit later than anticipated, there was somebody there to meet me. My hosts were very friendly and helpful. Making sure I knew exactly where to pitch my tent with very clear map of the site.
The ablution block was spotless and everything worked well.
When I left in the morning and popped into the cafe for a coffee which was served with a lovely smile and a chat.

Em va agradar The Vast Camping Area. Toilet Block in Great Condition and well maintained. Pot Washing and Laundry Area. Well Stocked Shop, Helpful and Friendly Staff. 5 Min walk to the Pubs for a Beer and a Hearty Meal. Location, Plenty of suitable walking areas on Foot. Only 15 Minute Drive from NT Car Park for access to Wastwater, Ritsons Force, Scafell Pike and Scafell.

A Hikers Ideal Location.

This is now one of my 3 Campsite Bases for the Lakes. Western Section.

Em va agradar We visited this campsite over the weekend as a pit stop for climbing scafell pike.
This is an absolutely wonderful campsite, it’s well kept and obvious the owners take great pride to keep this campsite a wonderful space. The shower and toilet block is a nice clean space. Most of all the stars for this campsite go to the staff, we arrived in the dark and had an issue with some equipment we brought, we had the help of the staff that evening, the next day we had a delightful bacon cob before heading out for our climb, lots of advice was given for our route and a pleasant chat, to the next day with leaving having help to ensure we didn’t take the fells way home (issue on the way there with that route) it was a lovely weekend and I only wished we could have had another night to explore more of the grounds and local walks around the site. We had a stunning view also

No em va agradar The only thing which is not related to this campsite at all, was on the route to the site there are two options on the satnav, we just followed the quickest route in beknown to us this route took us up a very narrow steep road, with hair pin turns. We got stuck on this road and it was very traumatic 😂 - like I say this is not related to the campsite but it is a notice to anyone who isn’t driving a land rover to stick to the A roads and not divert off them via the fell roads unless you’re a very confident driver with a car that can take a 90 degree incline.

Whether you’re climbing, canoeing or just ambling gently around with picnic in backpack, the Wasdale valley is a pretty pleasant place for a Lake District break. The valley is over 10 miles long if you fancy a full day’s historic hike, starting from the village of Wasdale Head, the start of the Three Peaks Challenge and the former home of Cumbrian pub landlord Will Ritson, whose tall tales led to the still-going-strong Biggest Liar Competition. One of the tiniest churches in the land, St Olaf’s, is at Wasdale in its ‘Viking fields’: Wasdale was originally settled by Norse farmers and the beams in the church are rumoured to be from Viking longships. Climbers can get to Scafell Pike and Great Gable from Wasdale Head, but walkers can continue along the valley length down to the village of Gosforth, which has the biggest Viking Cross in England at the Grade I-listed St Mary’s Church. Finally, fancy the beach? The Cumbrian coast at Seascale is seven miles from Church Stile Farm (walkable, you might reckon), with miles of sandy beach leading to the Lake District’s only coastal village, the fishing village of Ravenglass.
