When you fancy a walk from the shepherd’s hut at Guards Farm Hidden Huts, you’ll face a choice – should you take the short five-minute stroll out to the local beach, or turn the other way for an equally lovely wander on the moors? If that sounds like the sort of dilemma you could probably cope with, plot a stay at this cosy and luxurious adults-only glamping hut in the Cumbria countryside about five minutes’ drive south of Kirkby-in-Furness. Although kids aren’t allowed here, dogs are very welcome. As well as having a couple of lovely places within walking distance, this location is also handily placed for jaunts into the Lake District National Park – the southern edge of the park is about 15 minutes’ drive away for walks and other outdoor activities. The town of Ulverston is handily also about 15 minutes’ drive away for shops, pubs and places to eat. Before you do any of that, of course, you’ll have to manage to get yourselves off site – and that could well prove to be tricky, as it’s very easy to feel settled here. For starters, this is a working farm so you’ll have a whole lot of livestock to greet before you go anywhere. And you’ll also no doubt have to dedicate some time to looking out of the window at the stunning views. The hut’s setup is equally enticing – it’s got a kingsize bed, a sofa and a TV for chillout time, an ensuite bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen (with a fridge, induction hob and handcrafted solid oak worktop). Outside, there’s a seating area with firepit and griddle, and the crowning glory: a gorgeous wood-fired hot tub.

Em va agradar Everything! Could not fault it at all. The hut is amazing and has everything you need. It’s beautifully decorated and designed well. The views from the hot tub and the hut are breathtaking. It’s only a short walk to a beautiful and quiet beach. Easy access to any part of the lakes. The site is beautiful and clean. Great for dogs too. The owners are so lovely and are so helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back. Thank you Emma and Paul for a lovely weekend 🥰

Em va agradar Absolutely amazing 4 nights away in this beautiful hut. The location and standard is unmatched compared to any that we have previously stayed in. It provides the perfect combination of relaxation and the ability to explore the Lakes! The lovely hosts not only prepare the accommodation perfectly, they are also extremely welcoming and will go above and beyond to ensure that you enjoy your stay, and the little touches / finer details really do make this a special place. We also really appreciated the information booklet and their personal recommendations of the area, as it helped us navigate how to best spend our time! We will 100% be booking again!

Em va agradar This beautiful hut has exceeded our expectations. Emma and Paul have been excellent hosts, even helping with our itinerary - I highly recommend the Coniston waterfall hike!

The secluded and very private hut is just a short walk away from the beach, Emma recommended walking up cliff where you can get gorgeous views.

Do not hesitate in booking this hut, our weekend has been nothing short of impeccable! 🩷

Em va agradar We loved how comfortable and looked after we were, we felt right at home the second we arrived. The view is absolutely beautiful and the hot tub makes it even more special. The hut was very spacious and clean with everything you need provided kindly by Emma and Paul. The proximity of the beach too makes this a perfect retreat in the lakes, can’t wait to return!

Em va agradar Shepherd's hut was perfect everything was there we needed. Hot tub was so relaxing and the scenery breathtaking. Emma and Paul were attentive and helpful also very welcoming even though they are running a busy farm.

Em va agradar Absolutely everything, Emma and Phil were so welcoming. Shepherds hut was so cosy, loved the privacy and the beach that was only a 20 min walk away. Hot tub just right size for two people. Couple of nice pubs 10 min drive, would definitely recommend the brown cow for food. Windermere only 40 mins away. Will be going back and also booking as a gift for my daughter.

Em va agradar What an amazing place! From the welcoming hosts to the beautiful hut and surroundings, everything was just perfect!
We booked to stay again before we even left!
The hut was immaculate and is such a gem! The hot tub was perfect and easy to use.
We really enjoyed the location, you feel out the way of the hustle of life but are also a 15 minutes drive from towns with shops and restaurants.
Result reccomend the walk to the beach from the hut.
10/10 reccomend!

This location may technically be just outside the Lake District National Park but it shares many of the same landscape features without having quite as many visitors. Close by you can wander straight out onto the moors, walk to the sands of Dunnerholme beach (about five minutes’ walk) or get your clubs in the car for a round at Dunnerholme Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive). Looking a little further afield, you can explore the wilds of Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve (10 minutes) or South Walney Nature Reserve (35 minutes), or head to Ulverston (15 minutes) for a wander along the canal towpath. And of course there’s the Lake District National Park, where you might choose to head to Coniston Water (20 minutes), ride the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway (25 minutes), visit Grizedale Forest (35 minutes) for the mountain bike trails, outdoor sculptures and Go Ape course, or find one of the multitude of scenic walking trails.
