Designed for a cosy retreat whatever the weather’s doing outside, the shepherd’s hut at Elm Tree Farm Glamping is built from timber and insulated for year-round use. It's also in such a good spot, just 15 minutes’ drive from Doncaster in South Yorkshire. Set in a grass paddock, the shepherd’s hut operates entirely off grid, drawing power from rooftop solar panels to charge a battery bank during daylight hours. This provides enough energy for low-voltage needs like LED lighting for ambient evenings, USB charging ports for phones and the mini-fridge to store fresh food and drinks. Inside there’s a comfy kingsize bed made up with crisp linen, a well-laid-out kitchenette with a gas hob and sink, a foldaway dining table and a cosy sofa with cushions for that back-home feel. Thoughtful little extras include a mirror, towel rail and shelving space, and the woodburning stove will keep you nice and warm. With views across farm fields, your private outdoor space is set up for alfresco dining, and just a few paces away are a pristine modern shower room and loo, plus a washing-up sink.

Cabana de pastor

Em va agradar The cabin is small but incredibly comfortable and surprisingly well equipped for an off-grid stay. The solar panels provide enough power for lighting, charging phones through the USB ports, and running the mini fridge. The kitchenette has everything needed to prepare meals, including cookware, utensils, a gas stove, and a sink with water pumped from outside.
We especially appreciated the very comfortable king-size bed and the cozy atmosphere created by the wood-burning stove. Although we did not need to light it during our stay, it added a warm and welcoming touch to the cabin. The location, set alone in the middle of a field, offers excellent privacy and peace and quiet. We also enjoyed having dinner at the outdoor table, and it was convenient to have a food truck nearby offering a different menu each day. Despite its peaceful and private setting, the cabin is conveniently located close to the motorway, making it easy to access.

No em va agradar There was very little to dislike. The only point worth mentioning is that the bathroom is located in a separate building rather than inside the cabin. We did not find this inconvenient, but it may be something to consider, especially during bad weather or at night.

Em va agradar A perfect little getaway for a couple to unwind and relax in a quiet area. The hut had everything you need to make a delicious meal and enough room outside for several chairs and a yard game. The host was magnificent at communication and made sure everything was to our liking.less than a 10 minute drive to nearby pubs and restaurant

Stop number-one may be Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes’ drive), where you can take walking safaris through the lion reserve (if you dare) or get up close to endangered polar bears and red pandas in spacious enclosures. On a family visit? The stars of the show at Boston Park Farm are cuddly farm animals and ponies, plus lambs and piglets in spring. You can stretch your legs around the wetlands at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve and clamber over the floating obstacle course at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre (all five minutes) – and if you encounter the odd rainy day (this being South Yorkshire), The Dome leisure centre (15 minutes) has an indoor waterpark with flumes and various sports courts. Keen on vintage transport?
