A getaway in the North Yorkshire countryside with an indoor swimming pool and outdoor swimming pool and miles of scenic countryside on all sides – that’s likely to be a big hit with families, dogs and all folk who appreciate scenic hikes and laidback pool days. Luckily, that’s the speciality at White Rose Holiday Park. A 40-minute drive from the historic city of York and 50 minutes from the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there’s scope for strolls down the Shambles and walking the city walls, as well as hikes in North Yorkshire’s big backyard. Just don’t forget that the surrounding countryside is a playground of its own, with plenty more rural trails. The adventure playground and football pitch at White Rose Holiday Park are likely to be a big hit with any kids (and adult guests wanting some quiet time while the kids do what kids do, of course). Along with the two swimming pools, everything is well cared for and excellently maintained. When you’re ready to venture out, there’s a pub just two minutes’ walk from the doorstep. Further out, your activities might include tackling the 109-mile Cleveland Way or taking a look at the historic Kilburn White Horse or Byland Abbey, which are each only 15 minutes' drive away. The Helmsley area also has lots of stunning spots, from Rievaulx Abbey to Duncombe Park. Racecourses are in Thirsk, 15 minutes away, and York.

Em va agradar We enjoyed visiting local places that were easy to get to.

No em va agradar Unfortunately the apartment hadn't been cleaned properly and smelt of dog.
The big light in the main bedroom didn't work properly.
Couldn't leave the back door open due to the drains smelling.
The indoor and outdoor were closed.

Em va agradar Great having a hot tub
Nice apartment with all the facilities needed for self-catering, it was a good space to have as a base at the end of a busy day touring the local area.

No em va agradar Could do with a system to check out when reception is not open; we wanted to get on the road early to beat traffic on a long journey home, we managed to find a solution with the help of the gardening team on site but had they not been about we'd have lost over an hour of travel time having to wait around.

Llocs d'interès

Helmsley Walled Garden (25 minutes’ drive) has been around since 1758 and it’s still just as peaceful as it was in the old days, with apple orchards and wildflower meadows below the castle ruins. Aldborough Roman Site (20 minutes) is another historic spot. Back in Roman times, the site belonged to the largest tribe in Britain. Now, there are Roman mosaics, ruins of the town wall and archaeological features for modern-day visitors to ogle over. In York, The National Railway Museum (half an hour) zooms in on the history of the British rail system instead. Get behind the (go-kart’s) steering wheel at York MotorSports Village (35 minutes). If that’s not wild enough of a ride for you, Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park (25 minutes) and Flamingo Land Resort (45 minutes) have theme park rides too. Take your time in Thirsk (15 minutes)… there, The World of James Herriot has transformed the vet and author’s house into a museum of his life, and the Thirsk Birds Of Prey Centre (20 minutes) runs impressive flying experiences. Just outside of Thirsk are the Monk Park Farm Visitor Attraction (10 minutes) and Sutton Bank National Park Centre (20 minutes).
