Ever been to a site which is so good you just want to keep it under wraps? Wend your stealthy way to exceedingly popular The Secret Garden Touring Park in Cambridgeshire’s Fenlands, with accommodation in a green countryside setting within a two-acre garden. You'll spy all sorts of little touches that keep guests coming back: much like the local and migrant wildlife regularly flutters to the flowers and shrubs of the garden, all meticulously developed over years by owners Neil and Lesley to draw in nearby birds, butterflies and beasts like jays, woodpeckers, stoats and hares. The site also has its own herd of Gloucester Old Spot pigs and a flock of cheery chickens. Not quite undercover enough for you? Take one of the site’s bushcraft and survival classes to pick up skills in fire lighting, shelter building and other crafty activities; show off your skills later in the communal firepit area by cooking up some of the locally made bacon and sausages for sale in the site shop. Other little touches at The Secret Garden include regular sausage and beer tasting sessions, an on-site distillery, a games room and a ‘hobbit hill’ for the kids to hide out in. All guests have access to two modern shower and toilet blocks, and the kitchen with laundry facilities.

Em va agradar: Campsite was very picturesque plots was nice and large, fir pit was a nice idea but unfortunately they have holes in the bottom through wear need replacing

No em va agradar: No wifi, no signal, toilet block is the worse one I have been to, very run down and old.

Em va agradar: The pitch was nice and secluded with a nice feel to it amongst the trees. The on site catering from Hatch22 was great. Fresh cooked burgers to order were tasty with cheesy chips too! The bar on site is a great place for a relaxing drink or two. Facilities were clean and functional.

Em va agradar: Large private pitches, Lovely clean facilities with large shower rooms perfect for washing children. Handy shop open till late. This was the first time we camped with our young children aged 1 and 3, we all had a great time. Have already recommended to friends who are going to book for themselves. Location is ideal being just outside Wisbech

No em va agradar: Could have done with a bin in the washing up area but that’s being picky.

Em va agradar: The whole site is amazing, beautiful surroundings with a peaceful ambience. Plenty of spacious pitches with good amenities, especially liked the pub & the food served was awesome - as well as each pitch having its own fire pit in The Fen park area. Lesley & Neil are a wonderful, friendly and inspirational couple who have worked so hard to establish this facility and made it a national treasure.

Em va agradar: I was looking for a quiet, secluded site as opposed to a sprawling field with tents everywhere. This met the bill perfectly. The site is divided into numerous small zones with tents separated by mature plants, trees and bushes. It creates a sense of privacy and a very attractive environment in which to camp.

No em va agradar: I can't really complain but the 5.30 dawn chorus could have at least held it down until 6.30 😉

Em va agradar: Loved the campsite, lots of private pitches as well as a more communal camping area. Loo and shower block was clean with good facilities. Bar on site with evening entertainment if you wanted it, but fully quiet at 10pm so guests could sleep well.

The Secret Garden Touring Park is on Mile Tree Lane, between Wisbech and Wisbech St Mary, off Barton Road (B1101). Please enter Mile Tree Lane from the Wisbech direction. If travelling from the direction of Wisbech St Mary/Barton Road it is advised to go past the entrance of Mile Tree Lane and make a U-turn at the next junction (Panswell Lane on the next corner), in order to avoid this dangerous turning.

Wisbech, Cambridgeshire’s biggest town, is two and a half miles away and has a good selection of museums, shops and Georgian architecture to view (Dickens fans might recognise some of the town’s buildings from the Beeb’s adaptation of David Copperfield from 1999). Octavia Hill's birthplace house and museum, celebrating the many good deeds of this Wisbech woman, is also in the town, or you could reach heady heights at the Fenland and North Norfolk Aviation Museum to see aircraft and displays from across the ages. The National Trust’s Peckover House in Wisbech has great gardens (and croquet on the lawn), as does local brewery Elwood’s, with four acres of greenery as well as a maze to get lost in. Both the RSPB reserve at Ouse Washes in Manea and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney in Norfolk are within 15–20 miles if your whistle has been whetted by the wildlife watching on site at The Secret Garden; take a trip around the lakes of the Fens or east to the Norfolk Broads for more species spotting from boat and shore. Within driving distance for day trips you can also reach Cambridge and Ely to the south, Norwich to the east and the scenic seaside towns of Hunstanton, Wells-next-the-Sea and Sandringham to the north, or drive a little further to reach Skegness and Great Yarmouth.
