Fishing meets fab views at this site in the Staffordshire countryside, 20 minutes’ drive from Stafford. The fishing part of the equation at Carney Pools Camping and Caravanning comes from the setting next to two coarse fishing pools known as Carney Pools, which have fishing for all ages and abilities (including wheelchair-accessible pegs) at a pretty 12-acre site. And the views? Those come from a location that looks out over the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The level seven-acre field is sheltered by a well-established hedge and has access to two showers and toilet facilities (separate ladies’ and gents’ toilets plus accessible facilities). Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a lead and cleaned up after. Dogs aren’t allowed around the fishing pools until after the fishery closes for the day. There's a bar on site, which is open on busy weekends only. For a break from fishing there are plenty of riverside and canalside strolls nearby, along with walks in Cannock Chase and other outings to the likes of a National Trust estate, a farm park or the atmospheric National Memorial Arboretum. To sort food and other essentials, it’s a journey of just under a mile to Wolseley Bridge where there’s a shop, pub, garden centre and Indian restaurant (which will also do deliveries if you’re in the mood to flop out on site). The folk here also recommend a trip to the farm shop three miles away to pick up bits for a picnic or barbecue back at base. On bank holidays and special occasions, the site tends to put up a marquee with live entertainment.

Em va agradar The set up of the field was good. Kids park in the centre so everyone could keep an eye on their kids.

We had some sandwiches from the on site cafe for breakfast. Very nice.

Local Indian restaurant delivered to the site.

It’s about 1-mile walk to the closest pub.

Lovely pitch, great site will definately return.

Em va agradar It was a really nice stay at this place, we were treated very nicely and husband went and fished and that was nice, the play are is right in the middle and you can see the children play, toilets are really spotless. It was quiet and nice and spacious. Will definitely be back soon as we had a chilled and relaxed time.

Em va agradar Grass was really nice to have the tent on, not bumpy or weedy. Near a railway so could see the trains go past (no trains late at night though).
Warm and friendly welcome.
Toilet and shower block was really nice and well maintained.

Cabana pod Muscovy (2 places, de luxe)

Em va agradar I took my young daughter with me for a one night glamping in the two person camping pod. It was the most equipped one I've stayed in. The decking was a nice touch and I could easily see my daughter on the play area as I cooked us our evening meal. We booked a fire pit too that comes with logs, kindling and some fire lighter. The bed was so comfy and cosy. Lovely to hear the rain at night as we were all tucked up. The nearby pools allowed for a short nature walk, which my daughter enjoyed. The facilities were nice and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Will certainly be back x

No em va agradar The only thing is slight, but the location is close to a train track so you could hear the train noise occasionally. It didn't disturb us at night though x

Would stay again, but remember to bring a van, bowls, plates etc.

Cabana pod Muscovy (2 places, de luxe)

Em va agradar Great location to the park. Clean toilet block. The pod being furnished complete with bedding & cooking facilities meant we didnt have to take much stuff. Easy check in and check out. Would stay again.
Close to amerton farm & wolsely centre.

No em va agradar There really are no cooking or eating utensils other than 2 mugs. I mistakenly thought I'd sorted it by bringing all cutlery, but hadn't realised there were no bowls, plates, microwave pots, a saucepan, etc. So that's just something to be aware of.

Em va agradar loved the pitch clean and tidy, park was situated slap bang in middle of the field so we could see the kids at all times , loved that we could take our own bbq and firepit , walking around the pools later on in the evening was beautiful
staff were so friendly and welcoming , the breakfast in the café was delicious

No em va agradar hadn't realised that we had to have pound coins for the shower , good job we had some

Em va agradar Lovely clean site, well maintained, friendly staff, nice atmosphere and well looked after facilities.

No em va agradar £1 for showers, this was very surprising. This was the only thing I didn't like. No WIFI at all but good phone signal.

Try your luck on the trails around the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s Wolseley Centre (five minutes’ drive) or head to Amerton Farm (15 minutes) to feed lambs, groom horses and see chicks hatching (or let off some steam at the indoor and outdoor play areas…) For more of those peaceful country rambles, spend a thoughtful day at the National Memorial Arboretum or see if you can catch one of the opening dates at Mitton Manor Gardens for some splendid topiary, water features and sculptures. Both are 25 minutes away. Can’t resist the chance to poke about in a palatial country house? Nip over to the National Trust estate at Shugborough Hall or get your imagination going at the remains of Chartley Castle; both can be reached with a 15-minute drive. If that’s all a tad sedate, you may find the thrills of Hednesford Hills Raceway (25 minutes) more to your liking.
