Entertaining the idea of a cross-border break? For comfy hols on the England–Wales border, take a look at Foxtail Holiday Park, a modern site a couple of minutes' walk from the Llangollen Canal. Even savvy locals would be forgiven for being outfoxed by the geography around here, as this green agricultural landscape straddles the border in ways that make it difficult to keep up with which country you're in (any Cymraeg on the road signs is often a helpful clue). And letting yourself lose your bearings isn't without appeal in this part of the world – crisscross the surrounding terrain along the Llangollen Canal or Offa's Dyke Path if you fancy days of rambling (both are clearly signposted, so there's little chance of getting properly lost). Back at base, this well-kept park has an array of attractive all-weather pitches where you can settle down and relax after days of adventuring. Toilets, showers, disabled facilities, drainage points for tourers and free superfast wifi are all mightily handy to have. The on-site bar is open from 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays when you want to unwind or have a social drink, while fuss-free dinners can be fixed at the traditional inn five minutes' walk down the road. Foxtail Holiday Park also has the plus of being dog-friendly. Need a supermarket, leisure centre or takeaway? Oswestry and Wrexham are both within 15 minutes' drive.

Aquest càmping està ben cuidat i net, amb personal amable i servicial. Les instal·lacions, inclosos dutxes i lavabos, són immaculades. La ubicació és convenient, a prop de passejos pel canal i pubs. Em va agradar Location was easy to find and get to.
The pitches are all handstanding and of a good size with all services, ie water, waste and electricity.
Staff are friendly.
Toilets and showers are clean and modern.

No em va agradar Biggest dislike was the noise from the main busy road, this is 24/7.
We booked for 5 nights but left after 4, even though this is not the sites fault, it is a major dislike.
Such a shame because it has qualities.
The other thing is the onsite pub is only open Friday and Saturday nights.

Em va agradar Really friendly staff, always available if needed. Lovely site, toilets/showers really clean and plenty. Onsite pub really good, again, friendly and prices reasonable. Close to the canal for a nice walk and not far from Llangollen for a nice visit.

No em va agradar Only issue really was the road noise, cant be helped because of the location, but it is rather annoying. Next visit, will try and get a pitch further from the road.

Em va agradar Clean well maintained Site.

No em va agradar Unbearable traffic noise all throughout the night even on Saturday night and early Sunday. We were aware there would be traffic noise but so so close to a major very busy road we found it difficult to sleep. My advice is to bring Earplugs.

No em va agradar The road noise was unbearable, we didn’t sleep much at all as the site is metres from a very busy motorway/ highway, it was really noisy

Em va agradar Was a last minute booking and both myself and my partner loved it. Bar on site and one across the road 2 mins away. Canal 2 minute walk and a stroll to Chirk. The road noise didn’t bother us at all as mentioned in other reviews

Em va agradar Was in bay 15 and was spoilt for space!

What a lovely site.
Arrived mid week and grew busier as weekend arrived.
Across the road to the canal for a walk before ending with a pint at the Poachers. Food looked very nice but never ate ourselves.
Site has a club bar which opens at weekends. Again never tried as rather busy outside for our dog.
A small walk under the motorway was a shaded walk for our furry friend. Farmer fields either side leading to a national path walk.
Was in easy driving distance for the
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which was a lovely walk and we ate at the Telford pub. Lovely steak pie!

People had mentioned noise from the A5 but as we come from south east London don’t bother us at all 😜

Showers and toilets were clean and tidy.

In approximately half a mile, take the first turning on the right, immediately after the garden centre. White caravans signs are located on the grass verge. If you pass the Poachers Pub, you have driven too far past the site entrance.

Longing for the outdoor life? Rafters can hire a craft and splash their way down the rapids at Llangollen (15 minutes' drive), a pretty village in the foothills of the Berwyn Mountains. Those with courage left to spare can abseil, walk through gorges or clamber over rocks at the place's couple of outdoor activity centres; there's also scope for more relaxing rides aboard a volunteer-run heritage railway and horse-drawn jaunts in a restored barge. The ancient town of Chester (30 minutes) is also close if you're up for a change of scene – with museums, Roman remains and one of the finest zoos in all of England, there's a lot here to please any curious kids you've brought along. Additional hands-on activities can be sorted with a trip to Wrexham's Xplore Science Discovery Centre (15 minutes), where live science demos should put a sparkle in any budding boffin's eye. Other likeable local spots include engineering triumphs such as Chirk Aqueduct (20 minutes' walk) and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (10 minutes' drive) or historic houses like Chirk Castle (10 minutes) and Plas Newydd (15 minutes).
