Giant rabbits, pygmy goats, chickens, sheep, an Indian runner duck – they’re all down here in Dilwyn, living a cheery life on the quiet family-run New Farm 25 minutes’ drive from Hereford. And to keep them in that cheery state they all need feeding on a daily basis – something friendly owners Alison and Mark are happy to have a little posse of small helpers for (or larger ones, if you can’t resist the thought of getting up close to all the cute animals…). That’s just the closest of the countryside activities, of course – the site’s in a handy spot for Herefordshire walks, River Wye canoe trips, castle visits and outings to the many excellent cider producers along the Herefordshire Cider Route. Cider sipping’s not a terribly sensible option while out driving, so it’s a fine idea to pick some up to accompany a barbecue back on site; an even finer idea if you source fresh grill supplies from one of the butchers a few minutes away in Weobley. Not in the mood to cook? The local pub (literally – it was the country’s first to be bought by the parish council) is an easy five-minute amble from the farm for decent food and fine brews in a 17th-century coaching inn. Not everyone around here is involved in producing/selling booze; all sorts of things are created out in this part of the country, including the site’s composting eco toilet, which was crafted from Welsh cedar wood over in Machynlleth. Guests also have access to a shower room with hand basin, and can log on to the internet to keep contact with the wider world.

Em va agradar Lovely, peaceful site in a beautiful historical village

Such a quiet and charming place with friendly animals you can feed — perfect for a relaxing stay. The owners were amazing and very helpful. Clean, tidy facilities, easy to find, and the whole area feels safe and secure. The resident cat patrols like a boss, while the ducks strut around like a well-organised crime group — absolutely hilarious to watch! Also, it’s just a 20-minute drive to Berrington Hall and Croft Castle — ideal for National Trust members. Would definitely recommend!

Em va agradar Loved the tranquility of the site.
Made to feel very welcome and the children loved the animals and being allowed to feed them.

The pitches are spacious. Some are slightly sloped but this wasn’t a problem. Easy to hook up to electric.

The compost loos were great- clean and smelt fine!

Enjoyed being woken by a majestic dawn chorus each morning.

Shower was excellent.

No WiFi - didn’t bother us!


Had a pleasant walk to the local pub.
There is a little play area close by for little ones.

Em va agradar This is my second stay here and loved it just as much! Lovely welcome from Mark and then just settled into our pitch. I'm a big fan of individual pitches, which this little site offers! Plenty of space, beautifully clean shower and compost toilet. The kitchen area (including washing up section) is really useful, fridge/freezer for food also very helpful. New addition this year of barbecues, fire pits and logs. Didn't use this time, but would definitely make use at our next visit. There is a small cost, but seems reasonable! I came with my grandson, so we walked to the park over the road, good for kicking a football around! Slept peacefully, and Mark and Chantal messaged us in the morning so we could help with feeding the animals. My grandson absolutely loved being able to bottle feed the little lamb. And couldn't not mention that the site comes with Tismo - the friendliest cat in the world! Loves company, and if, like us, you're cat lovers, he might even come inside for a snooze! Thanks for a lovely stay, my grandson is already asking to come back for a longer stay, so hopefully see you again soon.

Em va agradar Mark was very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. My daughter adored the animals especially Olive and Alwen and was allowed to help with them...her best memory ever according to her.
Site was quiet and relaxing and felt like a little hideaway. No issues with the compost loo despite my daughter being apprehensive at first. Lovely site in a pretty village. Will definitely be back.

Em va agradar Everything. Such lovely hosts. Our14 year old son loves animals so this was an outstanding place for us to stay. He got to hug a pygmi goat and bottle feed Olive the lamb who was 5 days old. This site is just a little haven of peace and quiet with just the sound of birds, goats, ducks, sheep and the cockerel.

We hired a fire pit for the night and some kindling. There is an honesty box or you can get details from Mark for a bank transfer.

The composting toilets are fabulous and very clean. It's a small but wonderful site.

We ate at The Crown pub where the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. It is a short easy stroll to the pub.

We absolutely loved our stay at New Farm. Fabulous hosts and peace and quiet. If you are looking to spend relaxing time away, then I would highly recommend.

They let children go with them when feeding the animals which is a real highlight in my opinion.

We will definitely be going back. Plus, we need to see how Olive is getting on 🐑😍

Llocs d'interès

If a jaunt along the cider route isn’t your thing, perhaps you’ll be more taken with a day out on the Black and White Trail, which makes its way between several pretty and historic villages (with the area’s famed black-and-white houses, hence the name…) including little Dilwyn. For rather grander properties on a tour through the countryside, make tracks to Hampton Court Castle, Berrington Hall and Croft Castle, all of which are within a 20-minute drive. There’s a fine old Norman castle in Ludlow (half an hour) too, along with lots of excellent food shops; for a book to read while you sort through your finds, head to the bookshop mecca of Hay-on-Wye (25 minutes). The biggest city around these parts is Hereford, 25 minutes away (and with a bus connection from Dilwyn running a few days a week). Head over here to see the world’s largest surviving medieval map (the Mappa Mundi, displayed at the cathedral), visit the Black and White Museum or take a break from all the history by hiring canoes to paddle down the River Wye.
