Fancy the chance to go walking in the woods without having to drive there first? Deanwood Caravan and Camping has direct access to footpaths taking you into the Forest of Dean – so it really could hardly be easier to get out and explore this gorgeous Gloucestershire scenery. Getting out for a walk might take you along woodland trails in search of local birds and wild animals – or it might involve heading up to Yorkley village, a mile away, which has a dog-friendly pub as well as a well-stocked shop (a handy place to pick up picnic supplies or something to throw on your barbecue back at base). Dogs are very welcome at this peaceful site, and they will have access to their own exercise field where they can have a good run around off lead. Other facilities include washing-up areas and access to a fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Toilets and showers are housed in a modern heated block so there’s no need to worry about chilly toes… The Forest of Dean is a fairly compact area, so pretty much all of its attractions are within a 10/15-minute drive; there’s also more to see and do over in the nearby Wye Valley National Landscape, including canoeing or just admiring spectacular river views at Symonds Yat (half an hour’s drive). Three miles away, the town of Lydney has various leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and is a handy source of shops, supermarkets and restaurants.

Beautiful little site. Very peaceful just what I was looking for. Manager was extremely friendly and bubbly.

Very clean and welcoming. WiFi amazing, I am able to do my assessment with out any issues.

You can take a stroll in the woods, where you will see lots of wild life including wild boar. 🐗

They have washing machine and dryer that you can use just bring your own washing power (no charge which is amazing).

Easy walk into the village, 15/20 minutes. There is a lovely pub and a post office over the road

Em va agradar Loved this campsite! It is not too big so feels nice and cozy, we were on the grass and gravel pitches which are nice and flat (and very close to the facilities building) , however next time we might try one of the grass ones as they seemed to have nicer views😉 we were welcomed by a very friendly host who offered lots of useful information (including reassuring me and my fear of meeting wild boars in the forest 😀). Facilities were kept very clean during our stay and on Saturday evening they have a pizza van that turns up with the best pizza ever!!! Delicious 😋 they also have some very cute cows on site x very dog friendly site, enclosed dog field (there was cow 💩 around it when we visited and knowing our dog he would have run straight into it so we have preferred to walk him in the forest instead, but it is a nice and big enclosed area for your dogs to enjoy). You have direct access to the forest and so many paths to explore, we loved our walks! All in all, we highly reccommend this side and can't wait to return ❤️

Em va agradar We absolutely loved our stay here and would definitely return. The site itself is beautiful, peaceful and incredibly well maintained, with huge pitches and lovely views across the surrounding countryside.

One of our favourite things was the location. There are several access gates directly from the campsite leading straight into the Forest of Dean and onto different walking trails, which was absolutely perfect for us and our dog. You can literally leave your pitch and head straight into the forest without needing to drive anywhere. We spent loads of time exploring, saw deer in the forest and even came across sheep while walking along a nearby public footpath – it really felt like you were properly out in the countryside.

The dedicated dog exercise field was another massive bonus and had beautiful views. The facilities were always really clean and well looked after, and the whole campsite felt spacious and quiet rather than overcrowded.

We stayed on a premium electric grass and gravel touring pitch and had loads of room. It was the perfect base for exploring the Forest of Dean while also being somewhere we genuinely enjoyed coming back to and relaxing at afterwards.

Em va agradar Lovely views. Very quiet and peaceful. ANOR helpful. Very clean Block. V helpful staff. The new aggregate was very rough underfoot. Overall excellent, thanks. No pizza man this year? The EHU bollard needed clearer instructions to activate.

No em va agradar Adjacent steep embankment tricky to access our offside caravan services. Our friends site cottage was disappointing for them. Uncomfortable beds and chairs, needed upgrading. Only one in/out door, so a fire risk. Rather difficult to find enough things to do. Altogether, we were V happy, thanks again

Motorhomes and tourers: from the A48 (both Gloucester and Chepstow directions), approach via Viney Hill near Blakeney. On arrival into Yorkley, turn left into Lydney Road at the Bailey Inn, then continue up past the school and turn right into Yorkley Road (if possible, avoid the school drop-off and pick-up times). Do not use approach roads directly from Lydney (such as Driffield Rd, Albert St or Forest Rd).

Sights in the Forest of Dean include Clearwell Caves (15 minutes’ drive), an underground system of nine natural caverns that were mined for iron ore from Roman times until well into the 19th century; and Puzzlewood (15 minutes), an area of ancient woodland laced with paths. Both sites have been used as settings for various episodes of ‘Doctor Who’. A former prison built in the 18th century, Littledean Jail (15 minutes) now houses an eclectic collection ranging from punk-rock memorabilia, to witchcraft-related artefacts. There are also location-appropriate displays such as village stocks, body cages and hangman’s nooses, plus personal items of notorious criminals like the Kray Twins. Tintern Abbey (half an hour), sitting in ruins on the Welsh bank of the River Wye, was founded in the 1100s and became a victim of Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries policy just four centuries later. In addition to falconry displays, the site runs informative guided tours shedding light on the life of the monks.
