Zielo de Levante

Fancy a leisurely stroll in the rugged mountain countryside? Combine it with a visit to the Museo de la Valltorta (five minutes’ walk) for its exhibitions on prehistoric rock paintings and then see the work of neolithic farmers, who painted archers and animals on cave walls up to 26,000 years ago. However, Zielo de Levante has a spectacular location amid mountain foothills in the Valltorta-Gasulla Cultural Park, and you can opt for longer hikes among the almond and olive trees surrounding the glampsite. If you’d rather explore on two wheels, hire electric bikes to take the pain out of pedalling up steep alpine tracks. For a change of scenery, swap mountains for the beach and head for the sandy straits that surround the cute resort of Alcossebre (50 minutes), where you can also stop off tours the 11th-century ruins of Xivert Castle and enjoy a glass of wine and a sharing plate of tapas along the seafront promenade.
