Action-packed stays await for guests at Campotel at Camping Playa Montroig – this family holiday park near Cambrils has lots of activities on site, and it’s well placed for all sorts of days out. It’s worth booking as long a stay as you can at this park, so you’ll have time to try out all the leisure facilities. The highlight of these is likely to be the waterpark, which has four pools, six waterslides, waterfalls and a kids’ pool with mini slides and water games. And of course there’s also the fact that the park is right on the coast, with its own sandy beach for even more hours of sunbathing and splashing around… Away from the water, the park also has four playgrounds, three football pitches, a miniature golf course, a games room and facilities for kayaking or games of basketball, tennis, beach volleyball and pétanque – plus a spa, wellness centre and fitness centre for relaxing yoga or pilates classes. On top of all this is a kids’ club that runs in summer along with on-site entertainment and excursions. And that’s before you’ve even left the site: local days out include walks in the Montsant mountains, theme park outings to PortAventura or city strolls in Barcelona (an hour and a half’s drive away) Handily, you won’t have to leave too much time for dealing with practicalities like catering, as the site has two restaurants, four bars and a takeaway, plus a supermarket, bakery and wine shop where you can pick up supplies for meals back at your caravan (each of which has a well-equipped kitchen and dining area).

This is the place to be if your family loves being in and out of the water on holiday – as well as direct access to the beach on site, there are several other lovely beaches to try nearby, including Miami Platja (five minutes’ drive) and the sandy beaches in Cambrils (10 minutes). And there’s even more splashing to be done at the Aquopolis waterpark (20 minutes). Beyond that, you may also like to pack your swimming kit for a day at PortAventura (20 minutes) – the country’s top theme park has a waterpark area as well as all sorts of thrill rides, driving experiences and other rides for all ages. For other days out, try a trip to the Roman sites in and around Tarragona (20 minutes), a gentle stroll around Parc Samà’s botanical gardens (10 minutes) or hikes in the Serra de Montsant (an hour). A day trip to Barcelona may well be on the cards too – this characterful, colourful city is only about an hour and a half away by car and well worth the trip.
