Go to Nova Forest for the scenery and that satisfying feeling of being far away from the busy streets of a city. Set in a forested valley in the Montseny Natural Park, this site should have you admiring the views pretty much non-stop, except, of course, for those times when you’re too busy hiking, cycling or taking scenic drives through the local mountain villages.
This site lies next to a historic farmhouse called Les Illes, between the peaks of Matagalls and Les Agudes. It’s a welcoming, calm space alongside a river, well-suited to families, couples and hikers alike.
The team are full of suggestions for hiking routes directly from the site, whether it’s climbing up to the peaks like Matagalls, Les Agudes and Turó de l’Home – the highest peak in the Montseny Massif, by the way – or rambling to the local Sant Marçal monastery and restaurant. The Tordera route will take on a loop through the thousand-year-old chestnut trees. Meanwhile, another trail follows the source of the Tordera river.
Unwinding after such escapades should be quite a simple process at Nova Forest. After a shower at one of the two amenities blocks (with hot showers and toilets), head to the swimming pool for a cooling dip before concluding the day with a barbecue. A sports area and a children’s playground are also on site, should you feel like picking up the pace yet again.
Any barbecue ingredients can be sourced in the quiet mountain village of Montseny, 15 minutes’ drive away, or by rummaging through the local weekly markets. These take place in Llinars del Vallès (45 minutes’ drive) on Fridays, Santa Maria de Palautordera (35 minutes) and Sant Pere de Vilamajor (45 minutes) on Saturdays, and Sant Antoni de Vilamajor (45 minutes) and Breda (50 minutes) on Sundays.

Hiking routes directly from the site – yes. Cycling routes – another yes. There are cycling trails to the Sant Marçal de Montseny via Terrers or the western slope of Les Agudes; if you’re not sure of the ins and outs, just ask the team for the details.
You might as well take as many local recommendations as you can get; another one is the mouthwatering cheeses of Formatgeria del Montseny (five minutes' drive). As for scenic drives, there are several routes that are considered top-notch, including the one through the Tordera Valley from Santa Maria de Palautordera (35 minutes) to Seva (half an hour).
Did you know that Montseny Natural Park also has many historic sites? Ogle at the crumbling ruins at Castell del Brull (25 minutes), the Iberian wall of Fortificació ibèrica de Montgròs (35 minutes) and the 11th-century Castell de Montclús (half an hour) in Sant Esteve de Palautordera.
