Should you wish to explore without jumping in the car, follow raised boardwalks across the protected Artola Dunes (10 minutes’ walk) to the landmark Torre Ladrone watchtower (15 minutes), which was built in the late-15th century as part of the coastal defences. When you’ve had your fill of Mediterranean Sea views from the tower, head for the tapas bars and tavernas of Cabopino Marina (20 minutes), or dress up to hit the upscale port of Puerto Banús (20 minutes’ drive), where you can browse designer boutiques and admire superyachts in the marina. When you’re travelling with young kids, forgo the museums and have some fun on the beach at the lively Costa del Sol resort of Fuengirola (20 minutes), then let them run around on bouncy castles and cartoon-themed carousels at Sould Park Fuengirola.
