See how wealthy Prussians once lived with a snoop around moated Lüdinghausen Castle (15 minutes), or have a wander through the formal knot gardens at Schloss Nordkirchen (10 minutes), a 17th-century palace also open for occasional tours of its gilded interiors. For days when the weather refuses to cooperate, it’s easy to divert to the water slides, leisure pool and saunas at Freizeitbad düb (half an hour), or the spa facilities at Klutensee-Bad (15 minutes). Another rainy-day option could be a round of mini-golf at the indoor Glowing Rooms Dortmund (45 minutes).
