Like the sound of a camping holiday with a water park attached? You’ll soon be heading for Seepark Ternsche in Münsterland then. At 10 minutes’ drive from Selm in the district of Unna, this rural tourer park has a very special USP – namely the Aqua-Climb Seepark Ternsche set over the crystal-clear waters of Lake Ternscher. Surrounded by oak forest and meadows, the site is a wonderfully peaceful spot to park up your motorhome or caravan, whether it be for one night or several weeks. Everything you need – from groceries to breakfast rolls, inflatable lilos to treats for the barbecue – can be bought from the on-site shop, and there’s also a beach café where you can fill up on currywurst and burgers on the terrace overlooking the lake. From the tree-shaded grass pitches, you can hike and cycle on a network of trails, or stick around to flex your muscles on the obstacle courses and zipwires at the Seepark. Otherwise, content yourself with swimming off Lake Ternscher’s sandy beach, floating on one of those newly bought liloes or paddleboarding around the lake shore.

Local attractions

You may be unable to drag the kids away from Aqua-Climb Seepark Ternsche, which would be a pity as there’s loads to do in this corner of southern Münsterland. Visit the tigers, rhinos and elephants at Allwetterzoo Münster (45 minutes’ drive), where there is also penguin feeding to keep the kids entertained, or get up close to the wild horses living under protection at Wildpferdebahn Dülmen (40 minutes) To notch up some cultural credentials, check out the collection of Picasso ceramics, prints and black-and-white sketches at Art Museum Pablo Picasso (45 minutes). See how wealthy Prussians once lived with a snoop around moated Lüdinghausen Castle (15 minutes), or have a wander through the formal knot gardens at Schloss Nordkirchen (10 minutes), a 17th-century palace also open for occasional tours of its gilded interiors. For days when the weather refuses to cooperate, it’s easy to divert to the water slides, leisure pool and saunas at Freizeitbad düb (half an hour), or the spa facilities at Klutensee-Bad (15 minutes). Another rainy-day option could be a round of mini-golf at the indoor Glowing Rooms Dortmund (45 minutes).
