Sitting in the spectacular Gorges de l’Ardèche in the south of the Ardèche, Camping du Midi has a superb location with direct access to a private sandy beach and – yes, there’s more – the site is 20 minutes’ walk from the soaring Pont d’Arc rock arch spanning the river. With the mighty walls of the gorge as a backdrop, pitches are partially shaded by leafy trees. Handy on-site facilities include a modern shower block with hot water, a small playground, ping pong tables and a pétanque court. Eat out in the bar-café, or go self-catering and replenish your stocks at the grocery store. The free shuttle (every half an hour) is a handy way to get into Vallon-Pont-d’Arc for supermarket jaunts and a host of eateries from traditional bakeries to trendy pizzerias. However, the undoubted star of the show at Camping du Midi is the Ardèche Gorges National Nature Reserve itself; when the mood takes you, explore the gorge, go wild swimming and fishing, or paddle downstream in a canoe… You can organise excursions and gear hire at reception. But all that activity isn’t compulsory, so it’s lucky that the beach is also a very pretty spot for simply chilling with pals, or catching some sunshine as you splash around with the kids in the pristine waters.

喜欢: Access to the river and a great kayak trip.

不喜欢: The facilities were dirty. No one did any cleaning of the showers or toilets while we were there. The toilets stank of urine. There is no excuse for not cleaning, this is a basic expectation.

不喜欢: La malhonnêteté des gérants, si vous faites votre réservation sur le site pitchup et que vous faites le changement de date 1 mois avant votre arrivée, le camping refusera de vous rembourser vos nuitées non faites, car eux estime que vous faites un depart anticipé ! Mais un départ anticipé c'est lorsque l'on est sur notre lieu de vacances et que l'on décide de partir avant....nous, nous avions prévenu le 28 juillet que nous changions nos dates ( de 6 nuits, nous passions à 4) aucun remboursement ! Ils doivent se mettre de l'argent de côté, je pense que les impôts doivent être averti de se détournement d'argent

不喜欢: There were a lot of small dirty flies on the wall of the showers and a lot of spider webs when looking up.

不喜欢: Poor quality toilets (no paper provided and no toilet seats) No electricity provided at our pitch (as was paid for) Excessive noise from neighbouring campsite and the karaoke until 1am was anti-social and made it impossible to sleep, and I would have expected the owner to have done something about it. Also booked a canoe hike from the campsite through action du midi. Chose to pay in full online and up front, but could not get any refund when we had to cancel it due to the owner saying it would be ‘too difficult’…

I find you very hard with us because even if there were a party at the other campsite i accepted the day after to get your money back for the second day because you pretended your wife was seek, and for the canoe, i proposed to you to change the date or the trip but you don't want ! And for the toilet paper there is a distributor on the wall of the sanitary... For the elctricity the most of campsite propose it with a supplement ! Best regards, Yannick for the Camping du Midi

Fast-moving and thrill-inducing activities available in the Gorges de l’Ardèche include whitewater rafting – the departure point for bold adventurers is five minutes’ walk away. If you just fancy a gentler way to get out on the river, paddle canoes downstream to the landmark Pont d’Arc for a picnic under its span. More serious adrenaline-seekers can try the testing via ferrata climbing courses far above the river at Face Sud/Canyoning Ardèche (10 minutes’ drive). To come face-to-face with the ancient world below your feet, take an interactive tour of Grotte Chauvet 2 (15 minutes) to see replicas of prehistoric cave paintings and dioramas featuring hairy mammoths and Stone Age man. Discover dramatic crystal formations in the vast subterranean chambers at Aven d’Orgnac (half an hour), or watch the sound-and-light show in the caves at Grotte de la Madeleine (20 minutes) – and don’t miss the remarkable views over the Ardèche countryside from the observation deck. For more spectacular views over the twists and turns of the Ardèche River, head for the Belvédère d’Autridge (15 minutes) or Belvédère du Serre de Tourre (five minutes).
