Camping Le Valerick

This is the place for you if you like low-key rural activities – nearby you’ll be able to walk or cycle through the marshes, do a bit of fishing and stop at intriguing little places like the Tour de Broue and Maison de Broue (both five minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ cycle). Other ways to take in the scenery include treetop trails at Coolongalook Adventure Park and more sedate rides on Le Train des Mouettes (both 15 minutes’ drive). La Ferme de Magné (five minutes) is a nice option for families with younger kids, while historic sights like L'Abbaye de Sablonceaux (10 minutes) and Chateau de la Roche Courbon (25 minutes) have plenty of interest for all ages. And of course you can’t miss a day in Royan (25 minutes), whether you hit the beach, try the go-kart circuit or explore Planet Exotica. Royan also has boat trips to various islands and over to the tip of the Médoc peninsula. The Île d’Oléron (half an hour) is another great option for a coastal trip, with some gorgeous beaches and bike paths as well as oyster farms, wineries and trips to Fort Boyard.
