Set deep in the countryside of the Marais Poitevin, Le Marais Sauvage is a family-friendly campsite just south of the small village of Le Mazeau. The surrounding landscape is mostly made up of grassy marshlands, peaceful forests and pretty canals that are great for boating – so much so that the local area is sometimes known as 'La Venise Verte' (Green Venice). Guests spending the night here have access to well-maintained and spacious pitches, all of which are a short walk from the site's handy facilities. As well as essentials like toilets and showers, the site has a crêperie for a quick and easy snack. There are also laundry facilities, a service point for motorhomes, a small shop and a play area for the kids. Handily, well-behaved dogs are welcome, so the full family can be in attendance. The centre of Le Mazeau is a short stroll away, where there is a restaurant and a bakery where you can pick up fresh bread and tasty pastries in the morning. Slightly further afield, the larger town of Niort (half an hour's drive) has a definite charm with its old buildings and pedestrian shopping streets, while day trips to the coast can be easily arranged as well – it's just under an hour to La Rochelle.

喜欢 We had a lovely stay here and really didn’t want to leave! The campsite is peaceful, clean and well looked after, with lovely friendly staff and a great location for exploring the area. We only wish we could have stayed longer. We’d definitely come back and highly recommend it! 😊

不喜欢 Very little in choice of food or restaurants within walking distance. In fact only on site restaurant and cafe bar down by boat hire place. You will need at least 25 meters of power hook if you need it. In addition you will need a plug 110v converter for hook up

来自经理: Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed the peace and quiet of our campsite and the many walking opportunities around Le Mazeau.

We would, however, like to clarify a few points. Our small village of around 450 inhabitants actually has three places to eat, including our own traditional crêperie at the campsite. We also offer a bar and a small grocery shop. Several neighbouring villages also have restaurants and cafés and are easily accessible by bicycle or car.

Regarding the electrical hook-up, the need to bring a sufficiently long cable is clearly stated on our website before arrival. As for the adaptor, this simply relates to the standard electrical connection used on campsites in France and more widely across Europe; visitors coming from countries using a different type of plug therefore need to bring the appropriate adaptor.

Being located in a small village in the heart of the Marais Poitevin naturally means that the choice of restaurants within immediate walking distance cannot be the same as in a town or city. However, this peaceful, natural and unspoilt setting is also exactly what many of our guests come here to enjoy.

We are therefore a little surprised by the 7/10 rating, which seems rather severe considering the positive points you mention and the services available on site. Of course, we fully respect your opinion, but we felt it was important to clarify these points for future guests.

Recommend the river boat hire. 1hr romantic row.

With 112,000 hectares of canals and nature to explore, the surrounding Marais Poitevin regional natural park is a great place for boating, canoeing, kayaking or stand up paddleboarding. Fishing, cycling, walking and other leisure activities to help you feel at one with nature are also readily available in the immediate vicinity – for recommendations, head to the nearest tourist office in the pretty riverside town of Coulon (15 minutes' drive), which is also a good place to start boat trips. Elsewhere, the pretty ruins of the Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Maillezais (15 minutes) is worth a visit for anyone interested in the local area's Catholic and Huguenot heritage. For more inspiring buildings, you’d do well to check out the Renaissance château at Coulonges-sur-l'Autize too (25 minutes). If you don't mind a longer drive, it's well worth driving down to the beaches of La Rochelle or Noirmoutier island, both of which can be reached in just under an hour.
