It’s all about finding a bit of rural relaxation at La Billardière – Audrey and Yann have set up their Lower Normandy site to welcome guests to a peaceful spot with just enough facilities to make things comfortable (without distracting from the calm of the countryside). Come along to this small farm site just outside Le Ménil-Ciboult and you’ll be sharing the space with the residents that call this place home all year round – including goats, sheep, chickens, donkeys, dogs and cats. They’re a friendly bunch, and cute too – if you’re here at the right time you may be able to join in with bottle-feeding lambs. As this is primarily a home for the animals, the site owners have chosen to keep visitor facilities to a minimum, but you’ll have access to compost toilets, a barbecue area and a dog exercise area where your four-legged friends can have a bit of a run around. The nearest supermarket for your barbecue/picnic supplies is five minutes’ drive away in Tinchebray-Bocage, but you can make life even simpler by including breakfast with your booking (delivered fresh to you each morning). There’s also coffee available on site in the mornings to give you a good kickstart. How might you fill your days around here when not fussing over the animals? Well, perhaps a waterfall walk, a château visit or one of the family-friendly adventure activities available nearby? And for those of you who’ve never been before, an outing to Mont Saint-Michel (about an hour’s drive away) should certainly be on the cards…

喜欢 The animals were very sweet, highlights were some kittens/cats, a lamb who had free rein and chilled with us for a bit, the ostriches, a very cute dog called Sky, geese, peacocks, chickens and some bunnies! The family were all very lovely and welcoming and when they saw we were bikepacking brought us out a table and chairs to use which was so lovely of them, and very much appreciated!

You had a choice of where to set up and there was plenty of soft grass to choose from

We didn’t have children with us but others did and it was nice to see them playing with the animals and the owners children.

Not the best toilet/showers but they were warm and worked and we would stay again for the other parts.

不喜欢 The facilities aren’t maybe the standard of other campsites (rustic toilets and showers) but how often do you find an ostrich there?!

Séjour très agréable
Nous avons bien aimé l’accueil, les animaux, le cocorico du matin, la visite des deux chiens et l’endroit.
Et si vous aimez le spectacle il n’est pas loin du Moulin de L’Hyde (voir site internet) à Saint Pierre d’Entremont

喜欢 Loved this place. Host was very welcoming. We were in a VW transporter and were able to park on concrete area next to the grass. Plenty of spaces for tents as well. Lovely farm animals which the children really enjoyed. Communal covered area available with table and chairs if weather not great. Shower and toliet on site. Perfect one night stay for us before heading to Caen port which was 1hr10 away. Would recommend.

Decided to see a bit more of your rural surroundings? You can do so at a leisurely pace with a stroll around the waterfalls in Mortain (20 minutes’ drive), or at rather higher speed with an adventurous downhill ride at Normandie Luge (half an hour). If that’s got your taste for adrenaline going, there are more exciting antics to get stuck into (ziplines, treetop courses and bungee jumping) at AJ Hackett Normandie adventure park (35 minutes). Back down at ground level, slow the pace with a trip to the Musée régional de la poterie (10 minutes) or a wander around the ruins of Château de Domfront (25 minutes). If such things aren't a hit with the kids, try The Enchanted Village amusement park (20 minutes) instead, or head over to Zoo de Champrépus (45 minutes). The big draw around these parts, however, has to be Mont Saint-Michel (an hour) – the towering abbey on an offshore island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of France’s most-visited attractions. In summer it stays open until midnight and makes a fine sunset trip.
