Nissum Fjord Camping

The beach here is a truly excellent one, with kilometre upon kilometre of clean, soft sand and lots of space for paddling and games. Behind the beach is the huge Husby dune plantation, best seen by following the three-kilometre hiking trail (usually accessible to wheelchairs and buggies too, as long as the wind hasn’t swept too much sand up…) Fishing’s a fine activity along the coast, too – Thorsminde (five minutes’ drive), where sea meets lake, being one of the best spots to buy or catch. For swims without any current, slope off to the bathing lake in Stråsø Plantage (half an hour) or head to the covered warm waters and waterslides of Holstebro Badeland (half an hour). Keep things coast-based for a while longer with a trip to the interactive exhibits, workshops and play areas at Kystcentret Thyborøn (40 minutes), then skip next door to stroke slithery sea beasts at Jyllandsakvariet aquarium. Steer away from the sea and trips inland might include footgolf, inflatable sumo and other madcap pursuits at Vesterhavets Fodboldgolf (15 minutes) or arty wanders in Holstebro (half an hour), visiting the museum and seeking out the sculptures around the town.
