A small fishing area on site should whet appetites for days spent angling for a good catch – appetites that can then be more fully satisfied with rod and reel 45 minutes’ drive away at Vossoroca Dam. Not much of a fisher? Turn instead towards more urban pursuits with a trip to the city of Curitiba, an hour and 25 minutes from base. There’s plenty here to entertain the whole family, including sprawling botanical gardens, a zoo, a waterpark, football stadiums, parks, activity centres, and a host of museums focusing on everything from automobiles to the Holocaust. For those who favour nature-filled days over bustling city streets, it’s an hour and 45 minutes to Monge State Park (for waterfalls, hiking trails and a pilgrimage to a monks’ former cave dwelling) and an hour and 50 minutes to Recanti dos Papagaios, where hours can be spent (hopefully) in the company of colourful parrots. Those who would like to set eyes on the sea during hols should make tracks to the small coastal city of Guaratuba, an hour and 40 minutes away, where guests can have their choice of sandy beaches.
