Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

喜欢: Site is not too big but comfortable, enought space for tent and car. Look really beautiful, can see that owners put a lot of care about place. Toilets are clean and warm, the is no long distance to toilet doesn't matter where are you stayed. Site shop well equipped. Ladies in reception happy to help.

不喜欢: I was not sure from where I can take drinking water as there was no sign so assumed that water is good for consuption from every tap

喜欢: Beautiful clean site, really enjoyed our stay. Only thing I think could make it a little better is an extra washing up area, two sinks didn't seem enough for the amount of pitches, but we did stay at a busy time.

喜欢: Site clean, good location.

不喜欢: Kids running around tents and cars playing ball games and throwing things. (There are no ball games signs not enforced.) Pitches not level and too close together. Nothing to do if the weather is poor.

喜欢: Warm and friendly welcome. Site well maintained and clean. Ideally situated for ease to walk into local town close to restaurants and amenities

不喜欢: Slightly sloped pitch witch meant the airbeds slowly slipped throughout the night.

喜欢: Everything! Great break, level pitches, clean and well maintained lovely site. Excellent location to lake and town, will definitely return.

不喜欢: Now I’m being really picky here, hot water for washing up could be a bit hotter and please can we have a hook by sinks for hanging tea towels on while washing up :)

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
