A peaceful Powys stay, with stunning surroundings and stacks of space? Make your way to Glanusk Caravan Park, where relaxing stays can be had in the historic grounds of Glanusk Estate, one of Wales’ largest privately owned estates. It's also rather gorgeous, with a fine collection of features like walled gardens and Celtic standing stones to wander around, and listed buildings including the splendid turreted Tower Bridge over the River Usk. And it’s not just the views right there on site that are pretty special – the estate is surrounded by the epic scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and has spectacular views up to the Black Mountains too. Country pursuits like cycling, pony trekking and canoeing can all be had nearby, and there’s easy access to these and other outings via the nearby A40 and B4558. Spending time on site is an equally fine prospect however – and that goes for dogs too, who are most welcome to join you here. Fishing for trout and salmon is available on the five-mile private stretch of the River Usk. Ask on site about local ambles too – one member of the team is a Brecon Beacons Ambassador and has lots more suggestions up their sleeves. For a short stroll, head towards the award-winning high street in the town of Crickhowell (40 minutes away on foot) to source provisions from the butcher's shop, bakery and restaurants or browse boutiques for antiques, clothes, gifts and books. Too far? Stay on site and order a luxury hamper packed with locally produced goodies – let the team here know in advance and they'll sort out delivery to your pitch. Back at the park, an amenity building built in 2019 has disabled facilities, showers, underfloor heating, toiletries, towels and hairdryers; other amenities include waste disposal areas, dog and bike-washing points, and wifi.

喜欢: 1.Location in the Brecon area 2.Washroom facilities were small but clean to be fair with closed off toilets. 3. Super quiet which was great 4. River and canal side walks are great 5. Good walks on the estate albeit the river walk is just a boggy mud bath in most places!

不喜欢: 1. One outdoor sink for over 20 pitches plus camp field with no cover from the elements is simply not good enough by todays standards. 2. Lack of interaction with owners. Call a number on arrival. Told to go pitch. Just felt a bit faceless which is a shame. Saw the owner/manager quickly drive around in a loop shouting hello out of the window as he passed. Surely 10 minutes actually walking the loop of 20 pitches would make such a difference? 3. Hard standing pitches barely wide enough for a car. Ground therefore to the side very soft so mud got everywhere in just a few days. Not suited for all year camping really. 4. Zero shop facilities which is a shame for a farm/estate environment. Would be a big plus. 5. Just got the feeling the site was designed with just enough infrastructure to make it work so as to diversify to new revenue when a few adjustments could mark an ‘OK’ site into a ‘Great’ site. The potential is there but not sure the focus from the owners is on the customer experience right now.

喜欢: We absolutely loved Glanusk. Stunning area and the campsite is in beautiful grounds with great facilities. Just down the road from Crickhowell - a lovely little town - plus great walks. Owner was also really accommodating about our late arrival. Will definitely be back.

喜欢: Very new toilet and shower block Clean buildings lots of space Helpful management

不喜欢: One of the new hair dryers was broken but im sure easily fixed. The washing up area was a bit cramped and had a leaky roof, again im sure easily fixed. Only placing these here so management can fix for the next people!

不喜欢: No footpath on the road past the campsite but only a minor issue. The advertised WiFi won’t reach to the pitches so pre warn the teenagers to get their tiktok dose up prior

喜欢: The peaceful scenery and location, the clean and tidy utilities, friendly staff. It is a beautiful site. The pitches are nice and clean and have electrical outlets with plenty of space to set up camp. The price is very reasonable.

不喜欢: A very very very small thing that might of helped us is that there was a road closure just outside the site entrance. It might have been useful to have a signed at the top of the road (where is said the road was closed) to let people know you can still access the site.

Access to Glanusk Caravan Park is via the gates on the B4558 (Cwm Crawnon Road) as there is no access to the site from the A40. If you are approaching from the Brecon direction on the A40, do not turn right at Bwlch towards Llangynidr to access the site, as this will take you to a very narrow and impassable bridge. Instead, carry on past the main gates of the site, then turn right by the petrol station and head over the Crickhowell Bridge before turning right onto the B4558 (Cwm Crawnon Road).

Glanusk Caravan Park is within an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Wales, so plan a bit of time to turn your eyes skywards after dusk – on a clear night you're bound to be treated to quite the display. For a taste of local history, take a trip to Blaenavon (25 minutes' drive), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 that's home to the Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Ironworks, the World Heritage Centre and Blaenavon Heritage Railway. In Pantyscallog (half an hour), the Brecon Mountain Railway tells another historic story as it makes its way along the full length of Pontsticill Reservoir. For pubs, cafés and a small town with an award-winning high street, Crickhowell is within walking or cycling distance and hosts a walking festival, literary festival and numerous other events throughout the year. For more urban exploring, it's eight miles to Abergavenny, 12 miles to Brecon, 14 miles to Talgarth and 20 miles to Hay-on-Wye.
