Visiting the offspring at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David? Or just longing for a quiet motorhome break with a back-to-nature vibe on level grass pitches? Either way, Lampeter Caravan and Camping makes a more-than-handy base. This small, family-run site has spectacular views over the Ceredigion hills at Maesypwll and is five minutes’ drive from the Lampeter campus. While you’re in Lampeter, pick up foodie supplies from the supermarkets in Lampeter, or if cooking is off the schedule (this is your holiday after all) there are pubs, fish and chip shops and takeaways galore for you to choose your supper from. Set on a working farm, the pitches have easy access from the main A475, giving you good connections with the coast at Aberaeron (25 minutes’ drive) or the indie shops of Carmarthen (40 minutes). Simple on-site facilities include a shower and loo block, plus recycling and waste-water disposal. With just a handful of pitches, there is loads of room for kids to let off steam safely and have a run around with (well-behaved) dogs.

喜欢 The owner was really friendly and escorted us to our pitch which was very generous in size. Our stay was quiet with no noise from other guests and minimal road noise. Within easy walking distance of Lampeter but take care on the first stretch of road as there's no pavement

不喜欢 Not a dislike but the toilet/shower facilities need a bit of attention. A cute set up but the doors were difficult to close so privacy could be an issue for children. Hot water would be a bonus for hand washing. We only noticed the recycling bin when we were leaving

喜欢 My second visit here. Had the same fully serviced pitch, with beautiful views from my tent. Very peaceful and really large pitches. Owners are lovely. Great location for exploring Ceridigion.

Nice area with easy access to surrounding attractions. Small town nearby with pubs, shops, nice takeaways and restaurants.

喜欢 Not a lot, the surrounding area offered good views.

不喜欢 Filthy toilets that weren't cleaned at all for two days, never fully cleaned. Shower and shower curtain thick with black mold. Floors unclean. Washing up sink wasn't connected, just runs on to floor, with no hot water to wash up. Also no lighting in that area. Bins were overflowing on our arrival, and never emptied. Manager took payment, and never came back with our change. There was also an incident in which the manager was very aggressive to someone familiar to him, with children present, which made us, as two women, feel very unsafe around the campsite. We pitched up in the heatwave before noticing the facilities, had we seen this before, we would not have stayed.

喜欢 Great faultless site we stayed on. Lovely location, views were amazing, facilities can’t be complained about. Standard but that’s all you need if you’re camping!

喜欢 Cheap camping in a well maintained site with freindly owners. Easy access to Lampeter and short drive to many beautiful coastal locations. Highly recommend for back to basics camping.

喜欢 Easy to find, a well kept site, clean toilets and good shower as well. Very spacious plots, communal fireplace area (wood provided for 1 fire then can purchase more on site after that). A nice chilled quiet site, perfect for us, spoke to a few of the other guests and had a few drinks with them as well one evening. Stuart the owner is a great guy and we will be coming back very soon.

First stop may well be a day at the coast. Gather everybody up and head for New Quay (half an hour’s drive) with its cute fishing harbour and pocket-sized beach, or choose Aberaeron (25 minutes) to admire its brightly coloured houses and go swimming or sailing. At Aberystwyth (45 minutes) you can take a ride on the cliff railway for wondrous views over Cardigan Bay. At each of these ports of call, there are cafés and restaurants for revitalising after splashing around on the beach. Carmarthen (40 minutes) is a lovely spot to spend the day, with the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheatre, indoor artisan markets and lots of art galleries as well as indie boutiques selling jewellery and crafts. If you have time, take a detour to the Carmarthenshire County Museum in nearby Abergwili (40 minutes) to learn about local Arthurian legends. If you’d like to buy some Welsh souvenirs, plan a visit to In The Welsh Wind Distillery (35 minutes) to pick up some gin, or take home some local honey, beeswax and seeds from Gwenyn Gruffydd honey farm (45 minutes).
