To the Kent countryside and a handy spot that’s equally well placed for Canterbury and the coast as well as rural wanders. Chaucer Farm Camping is a family-friendly spot on a working farm just outside Sturry, with easy access to all sorts of days out. If you’re in the market for a proper rural day or two, you might like to walk straight out from the site to Kemberland Wood, a couple of minutes away or take the kids up to Wildwood Trust (a couple of minutes’ drive away) to meet the animals. Elsewhere, a 10-minute drive will get you up to the coast at Herne Bay for beach days or over to Canterbury to stroll through the historic streets (and maybe learn a bit about Chaucer himself at the Canterbury Tales exhibit). Back at base, it’s a fairly simple setup, with just a couple of toilets, a shower and chemical disposal on the facilities front, but there’s also a well-equipped play area where the kids can have a run about. Campfires are welcome here, as long as they’re kept off the ground, and the friendly folk on site are happy to provide firewood to help you along with your blaze. Need something to cook? There’s a small supermarket a mile away, but surely your meals will be at their tastiest when made from the farm’s own provisions: fresh eggs are available to buy on site.

喜欢 Toilets were fine with toilet roll.
Washing up area fine.
Shower my friend told me was good but no where to put anything.
Cheap but for valid reasons that weren't expressed in the description.
Easy reach to the coast and activities/attractions.

不喜欢 It is a small site, which isn't a problem but it is right off a VERY busy, fast road which kept me up all night. The play area was surrounded by nettles which had not been cleared so my 3 year old got stung within minutes of arriving. There are also a number of dogs kept on the edge of the sight who would bark setting my dogs off - day and night. I was booked in to stay for two nights but left after one as couldn't bare another night of noise from the road and dogs.

不喜欢 Poor communication arrived on site (17:50) to locked gate, rung contact number no answer straight to ‘unavailable’ waited at gate 20 minutes had to text number on the gate to be told the gate code and to park up on hard standing and someone would tell us where the toilets and shower was in the morning.
Poor maintained site over grown brambles, footpaths over grown. Poor quality facilities most were broken and in no fit state to be used - extremely unclean.

喜欢 A small friendly site in a great location.
Clean shower unit and toilets.
I am a solo camper so having the Gate is locked at all times adds to feeling of safety.
This was my second stay and will visit again.
You will need a decent torch .

喜欢 Very friendly owner, very helpful.

不喜欢 The shower, there's nowhere to dry and dress without it getting wet, perhaps an extension (dry area) to step into once showered to dry and dress as it was a bit too cold to just step out in a towel. But the whole idea of the shower was amazing. Also although this can't be helped it was a bit frustrating listening to the traffic all the time, nothing can be done about this but obviously if given a choice I'd prefer a quieter location.

喜欢 Very peaceful nice friendly owner. Who greeted us on arrival. And was no rush to leave like some places. Which was lovely as we didn't need to rush to pack up

不喜欢 The bathroom facilities were not to my liking and refused to use them especially the loos.

4g is not that great in the area. So be forwarned.

Countryside first? It’s only a couple of minutes’ walk to Kemberland Wood, or about 10 minutes’ drive to West Blean and Thornden Woods for a stroll along tree-lined trails. You may spot a bit of wildlife as you wander, but for guarantees on that front you’ll want to head to Wildwood Trust (two minutes’ drive) to meet native British beasts including wild horses and bears. For more exotic animals, plan days out at Howletts Wild Animal Park (15 minutes) and Wingham Wildlife Park (20 minutes). Or, if you’re more into history and pretty gardens, take a trip to the 17th-century mansion and Capability Brown-designed gardens at Chilham Castle (25 minutes). Ready for the coast? It’s about a 10-minute drive to Herne Bay, or 15 minutes to Whitstable. You can also tick off a truly iconic British sight with a visit to the White Cliffs of Dover (35 minutes). In among all this it’s worth finding time for city strolls too: Canterbury is only about 10 minutes’ drive away for visits to the cathedral, the Roman Museum and the Canterbury Tales exhibit.
