Would you dearly love to spend some time in the woods? If you would, take a look at Lancashire’s Dearden Wood, a 10-minute walk from the little village of Edenfield and a 20-minute drive north of Bury. Guests here (four-legged ones welcome too) can start their rural rambles with explores of the 11 acres of mature pine and deciduous woodland around the site, then set their sights a little further afield on the footpaths and cycleways through the surrounds or from nearby Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall (both of which also have a fine collection of places for post-hike pints and food). If you'd rather stagger back to site for sustenance, there’s plenty of space for a barbie, and a washing-up area to get your kit clean afterwards. Edenfield’s a good source of eats too: fuel up for the day with a cooked breakfast or croissant from the café or bakery, pick up a takeaway or settle in for a cosy evening in the pub. Fingers crossed, such peaceful surrounds lead to deep slumbers – with that end in mind, the owners have kept facilities to the basics, simply installing a couple of toilets and a shower rather than kitting the place out with unnecessary distractions.

喜欢 What a wonderful little site, peaceful and quiet. Excellent facilities, clean and well maintained. Just sit back and listen to the birds. Great location access to nearby shops. Some excellent walks with access to public footpaths.

Small site but great facilities
Toilets, shower and communal kitchen area very clean.
Felt very safe

不喜欢 I have to use the bathroom several times overnight often urgently. It was difficult to get through the gate with 2 latches and then operate the key code lock to access the toilet in the dark, with arthritic hands when desperate for a wee. This was literally the only negative and pretty specific to my own disabilities. Otherwise an amazing site.

喜欢 Fab location, peaceful, decent size pitches, lovely trees all around the site, warm welcome on arrival, small kitchen with use of kettle and microwave, clean toilets and shower. It’s our second stay and we will definitely be back.

喜欢 Fantastic little campsite tucked away in the woods. We were greeted on arrival and given all the info we needed including where to head on lovely walk, and where to find a great roast! Facilities were also immaculate.

6min walk to a lovely waterfall and dip spot

不喜欢 No one to meet us on arrival so had no idea which pitch to park in.
Electric went in kitchen/shower so had to have a strip wash after a wild dip in a bowl - not that easy with a baby.
Water went the next morning so couldn’t have a wash or brush teeth.
Gravel wasn’t gravel it was rocks so not safe for baby or my van tires.
£30 for a midweek non EHU expensive

Unfortunately, the power cut we experienced was for the whole of the village and not something that we could control, but I understand the inconvenience of this. The hardstanding that we have on our van pitches is just a normal hardcore, but in all honesty, hardcore isn't my specialism :) Aside from that, your photos look lovely and hopefully you enjoyed sitting round the fire in the evening and waking up to the birdsong in the morning. 喜欢 We really enjoyed our visit! It was hard to believe we were just minutes from the town- such a stunning spot.
It was my kids' first time camping, with ages 7,9, and 13, and they absolutely loved it. It's a perfect place to dip your toes in the water and try something new.

The facilities here really help make everything comfortable- there's an on-site shower, toilets, a kettle, toaster, microwave, and a small fridge freezer.

The woodland and the river at the bottom provide plenty of space for kids to play and explore.

There's a local shop just four minutes' drive away for supplies, which came in handy on the hottest day of the year- we enjoyed some ice creams together!

喜欢 We loved camping in the woods. It felt we were miles away from civilization but we where only 1/2 mile away from the nearest village. I love pretty much everything about the site

喜欢 Lovely quiet setting. Was given a bigger pitch as it was available. Short walk from dog friendly gastro pub where food was great. Good hot water. Great barbecuing facilities . Nice other campers who seemed to be regulars. Good walking facilities for dogs if you can work out where they are ( signage not good)

不喜欢 Was told I would be met on arrival but no-one was there and had no information about which pitch to go on or the combination for the toilets.when I telephoned no one was available , though someone did get back to me fairly quickly after leaving a message. Only one shower and two toilets ( one in same room as shower). There were only two other pitches taken so with us 3 but any busier the limited bathroom facilities would have been a problem. There were lots of signs everywhere saying ‘ no entry’ which made it feel a bit unfriendly

Walks in these surrounds are fab, but they're not the only way to get out and about. Those who like to take it all in on two wheels may like to mount their mountain bikes for the short (but steep) ride to Rossendale Moor to get their kicks on the quarry trails. Rossendale (10 minutes' drive) is also the place for climbing walls, laser tag and a roller rink at the Adrenaline Centre. Something a little less hair raising? Take it easy on the East Lancashire Railway, which rides through Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall (both 10 minutes' drive) as it puffs its way around the Irwell Valley. Check out their schedule for details of special journeys including ale rail, dino-themed days, photography courses and the like. More of an appetite for all things that move? Take in buses, trams and a vintage fire engine at Bury Transport Museum (20 minutes) – as a bonus, it's completely free to visit. If you need a reminder of urban life, flag down a bus in the village for the 40-minute journey to Manchester’s museums, shops and theatres. Rather stick to the rural stuff, ta? Meet the menagerie at Cronkshaw Fold Farm (15 minutes' drive) or Animal Quackers (20 minutes), or saddle up for a day out on horseback from the riding centre in Holcombe (15 minutes).
