Fresh air, wind in your hair and the sounds of nature… Rural holiday dreams, right? Get a good dose of all the above at Shepherds Views Holidays, a small, family-run site on a working farm a few minutes’ drive from the village of Holmrook in Cumbria, North West England. Shepherds Views, less than five minutes from the edge of the Lake District National Park, is a top spot for an outdoor getaway. There are hundreds of walking routes throughout the park for all levels of difficulty – keep your eyes peeled for otters, deer, eagles and the elusive red squirrel as you go. If you’re more comfortable on two wheels than two legs, hire a bike on site and head off on one of the many cycle and mountain biking trails that crisscross the park, or follow Hadrian’s cycleway, which passes the Shepherds View entrance. You can also take to the water an hour away with boat hire, steamer and launch trips, and rafting and canoeing, or venture out of the Lake District National Park and head over to the coast, less than five minutes away, for swimming or exploring the beaches. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to site where you can fire up the barbecue, pile it high with all your faves, then chow down with Rex stretched out next to you beside the campfire – if you’d prefer a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants within half an hour of Shepherds View.

喜欢 We’ve had a great couple of days away from town. Loved the nature, it was peaceful like what we expected. There were animals that my kids just loved and every morning they were running to see how Donkeys , cows , alpacas and sheep’s are doing:) animals were really friendly and let us to be stroked and it’s all for free too! We had drinking water right next to our tent which was a plus! Also toilets were only round the corner very well looked after. Equipped in toilet paper and hand soap. Little shop was on the site that of course we have used as it was so cheap too and you could get snacks toys ect. Sea side was only 5minutes away to drive
I would definitely go back!:)

喜欢 Good size out pitches, facilities were clean and tidy. Great location for exploring, close to Scarfell Pike and is in a lovely seaside location.

喜欢 Just arrived home from a four night stay. The girl running it is so lovely and helpful. If she can help you with anything she will do. She literally never stops working. Newly refurbished showers/toilet blocks, always cleaned throughout. A fridge freezer free to use if needed for ice packs etc. A canny size play field for kids ball games and football nets. Some animals on site my son loved to walk along and see on a morning. Nice clean site and plenty of water tap’s. Lovely views from our pitch. All pitches have own fire pit. Two beaches Five- Ten min away with a co-op/ Pizza shop/Chinese/fish and chip shop and an ice cream/cafe there also. Some lovely hiking spots near by.

喜欢 Loved it had a field for the dogs and children to play safe. Pitches are spacious. Toilets and showers were clean and its got underfloor heating. Its local to the beach and a beautiful little village. Scarfell and wastewater 20 mins away. This has been my 5th time staying here and will again. Staff are helpful and down to earth people.

喜欢 beautiful site, very clean and well ran. Everything is clearly signposted and we appreciated the small touches such as the recommendations for food, nearby garages etc.

the site owner was very kind and helpful, she was wonderfully patient with our children. Wonderful open spaces for the children to play and they loved the animals on the farm too.

I appreciated her firmness and check ins on if people were being respectful to the quiet time hours especially having young children, this helped to alleviate any anxiety on rowdiness and everyone pitched up when we were there was respectful of this too.

喜欢 The area, space, drinking water points, toilets & bathrooms and the location.

不喜欢 The fridge/freezer could have been bigger, with more storage space. I think if guests are staying for a longer period, they are likely to have more food items that need to be stored.

Regarding the fridge and freezer facilities, they are provided free of charge for guests to use, most guests with electric bring there own fridge / freezer, we provide them as a curtesy for guests who don't have electric or anyone who needs extra space.

Clamber aboard the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10 minutes’ drive from Shepherds Views Holidays) for a trip through the Lake District under someone else’s steam, then venture to Horse and Husky for horse riding and dog sledding. Making your way to Wast Water lake, 25 minutes from site, is a must too, even if you just stop and soak up the absolutely stunning views – you’ll feel your stress melt away. Active sorts will want to swim on over to West Lakes Adventure, 25 minutes from the site, where they can try canyoning, canoeing, rock climbing, archery, abseiling, raft building, mountain biking and paddleboarding. For a feel of what it must have been like to live that Upstairs Downstairs, Downton Abbey type of life, take a trot around the gardens at the spectacular Muncaster Castle, 10 minutes from Shepherds Views, or trip along to the stately home of Wordsworth House (the childhood home of poet William Wordsworth) where you can poke around the rooms, root around in the gardens and let the kids go wild. Kids still chafing at the bit? Get in the car for an excursion to Jump Mania trampoline park, Lake District Coast Aquarium or Lake District Wildlife Park, all within an hour of site.
