Coast or country? Deciding between the two for a hol is quite often a quandary, but with Wantisden Park both types of lovely landscapes are within easy reach. Set on a private estate, this East Anglian glamping site in the lush Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around a 15-minute drive from the sea. It overlooks ancient oak woodland and lakes home to countless plants and wildlife – including wild deer – so it’s a top base for holidaymakers keen on roaming the countryside. As well as wandering around the estate, guests at this site might like to partake in walks through the surrounding forestry. Plenty of pretty villages are also nearby: Orford, famed for its smokehouse, Norman castle and quay overlooking the banks of the River Ore (with boat rides available), is 15 minutes’ drive away, and the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, with their sweeping sandy beaches 25 and 30 minutes respectively. On site, there is a small shop where you can pick up essentials, complete with a seating area with wifi. This park’s amenities also include a refurbished shower block with changing rooms and laundry facilities.

喜欢 Excellent site. Stayed in September and was very quiet. Very good facilities and well thoughy out. Recycling bins, ash bins, fridges, 4 sinks for cleaning pots and pans, showers.... loved it.

不喜欢 Air base nearby can be noisy if it's operational but I would imagine this is rare.

喜欢 Great quiet site. Lots of space on pitches. Good/clean facilities. Even has a wee shop/cafe on site...which was closed when we were there (out of season).

不喜欢 Watch out for the rabbit holes in the grass. Twisted my ankle quite badly when stepping out of van (hoIe was hidden underneath awning floor). Bring a torch at night to avoid the holes.

喜欢 A well managed site in a pleasant quiet location, facilities are clean and modern. Bring your levelling chocks for the advertised slope on the touring pitches.

Overall a great place to stay.

不喜欢 The WiFi could do with a boost, there is very patchy mobile data which is obviously not the site's fault but therefore it makes the WiFi more important.

喜欢 Quiet magical stay surrounded by ancient oaks and wildlife. Miles from a road so absolutely silent. Dog friendly with fantastic facilities and an on site cafe (we will be back to try it!) secluded peaceful options to pitch where you like. Loved it!

不喜欢 Didn’t bother me at all but others said the loo roll ran out in the night and seemed perhaps the showers could do with a deep clean after a long hot summer

喜欢 Non electric camping field is a bit bumpy in places but has an amazing atmosphere, really serene and calm, surrounded by nature, probably one of the quietest places we have ever visited. Nice walks to do from site. Good bathroom / shower / washing up facilities. We didn't use the onsite cafe but very handy if you needed it.

不喜欢 Only minor but the fridge / freezer facilities were a bit old and dirty in contrast to everything else which was very well kept. There wasn't much room to freeze our icepacks as they didn't have a separate freezer, only compartments at the top of the fridges which were quite full.

One of the most sought-after sightseeing options in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area is the Sutton Hoo archaeological site near Woodbridge (15 minutes’ drive) with its two 6th- and early 7th-century cemeteries. One was home to a ship burial where a multitude of Anglo-Saxon artefacts were uncovered, many of which were sent over to the British Museum in London due to their top cultural significance. Learn about the discovery, then potter over to the riverside setting of Snape Maltings (15 minutes) for more history in a village that's home to industrial buildings dating back to the Victorian era as well as modern galleries and boutiques. Woodbridge, a market town 20 minutes away, is also an excellent choice if you fancy shopping for souvenirs. For town times by the sea, Aldeburgh (25 minutes) is a pretty place set by a shingle beach on the North Sea; set off on a wander here towards the Martello Tower, built as a defence against Napoleon, then head over to the hamlet of Thorpeness (30 minutes from the site and a couple of miles from Aldeburgh) for a bit of boating on the mere.
