Just next to the Offa’s Dyke Path and on the banks of the River Teme, Panpwnton Farm is about as close to Wales as it’s possible to be without actually being in Wales (although as the border’s just a couple of hundred metres away you can easily flit between the two nations as you wish…) That location makes this a prime pick for anyone making their way along the entirety of the Offa’s Dyke Path – but there’s plenty of walking (and cycling too) to be done nearby for folk who aren’t up for such long-distance ventures. The farm is in the southern stretches of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes' drive from Llanfair Waterdine), where lots of scenic trails await, and you can also try out shorter stretches of Glyndwr’s Way, another major trail on the Welsh side of the border. There’s pretty rural scenery all around the farm, but you’ll not be stranded miles from civilisation – in fact it’s only about a mile to the small town of Knighton for pubs, eateries, shops and a railway station. You can drive down there in five minutes or so, but the favoured way to travel is to stroll along the riverbank for 20 minutes. Barbecues are permitted on site, so stock up on goodies for the grill while you’re in town. A washing-up area is on hand for cleaning up afterwards, and there are hot showers to help you do the same for yourself. There’s no wifi on site, but most guests get decent phone signal, and there are charging facilities to make sure you’ve got plenty of juice to plan your adventures.

Kettle was used lots, saved on fuel.

不喜欢 Although I had no issue, the barn was very close to the facilities. Imagine on very busy days/nights it could be noisy esp if one went to bed early.

喜欢 Relaxed site even when busy. Clean facilities. Great views of hills. Nice easy walk to town along a river. Fires and barbecues allowed. Friendly staff. Good pubs in easy distance. Snacks sold on site. Drinking water and bins provided.

喜欢 Lovely flat camp site with plenty or room. Great idea to have unisex showers and toilets, washing facilities etc. Nice quirky catering facility with inexpensive popular food options. Friendly, helpful owners. Beautiful surrounding countryside. Lovely post hippie vibe.

喜欢 A lovely setting occasionally enlivened by the Heart of Wales line running through it. A peaceful walk into town (crossing the England/Wales border) aloneside the river. Good on-site coffee and snacks from 9-5 ( very good sausage!). Facilities in good order

喜欢 It's a beautiful site, based around an old farmhouse between hills and a river, with a railway running along one edge. We heard owls and saw a kingfisher twice. We loved the relaxed feel of the site, the large area available to pitch in, the level pitches, the views, the friendly owners, having a fridge, the quality of the facilities - lovely big shower cubicles. (Although it got pretty busy over the weekend, there always somehow seemed to be enough loos and showers!)
Be aware that the price of having a lovely pitch with views and access to the river is a long walk to the facilities!

喜欢 Lovely campsite with beautiful surroundings. The riverside walk into Knighton was great and the town is really nice. At the campsite they have a notice board detailing local amenities and walks in the area. We did one of the walks which we enjoyed. We didn’t have anything from the food van but prices were reasonable

不喜欢 Only a little niggle but could do with more toilets and showers. I waited in line for 15 minutes for a shower one morning.

As you’ll probably be skipping about either side of Offa’s Dyke, it makes sense to start your trip with a visit to the Offa’s Dyke centre (five minutes’ drive) to find out about the ancient landmark. For other walking trails, head to the Elan Valley or Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (both 40 minutes). For a closer look at the natural world, plan trips to the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre (25 minutes) or stop by at the Red Kite Feeding Station (40 minutes) to see these splendid beasts in flight. The Spaceguard Centre observatory (10 minutes) is also worth a visit if you’d like to find out more about the skies overhead. Castle outings are part of the landscape for trips here too – perhaps to the impressive 13th-century fortifications of Stokesay Castle (half an hour) or the art-filled rooms and colourful gardens of Powis Castle and Garden (50 minutes). If you’d rather skip straight to the garden strolls, try Hergest Croft Gardens (25 minutes).
