All bets are on for a brilliant time at Ludlow Racecourse, a fab choice for folk fond of having a flutter on the horses. Not that you need to be an equestrian expert to stay here – it’s also a popular place for using as a base to shuffle around these rural Shropshire surrounds. Ludlow, a top town with a regular farmers’ market and your gateway to wanders in the Welsh Marches, is a 10-minute drive away. On a practical level, having Ludlow so close to base is also handy as the town is home to supermarkets, restaurants and a railway station. The cycling’s also excellent around here, so hop into the saddle for rides through the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, the edges of which are accessible in about 25 minutes by bike (or 10 minutes by car). Well-behaved dogs are allowed to stay on the grounds here, so you can relax while your fave animal sits by your side at your well-maintained pitch. Please note that Ludlow Racecourse has a clean and tidy toilet block, but guests will need to look elsewhere for shower facilities.

喜欢 Great for a one night stay. Nice flat pitches easy to get into. There is a trainline right next to it, the trains weren't an issue and we knew they were there, however we didn't know there was engineering works taking place so jackhammers and digging at 1am. If booking maybe check on engineering works. Great if you are attending an event on site.

喜欢 We had a lovely stay at Ludlow Raceway. The site has beautiful views and plenty of open space, so it feels really peaceful and spacious. The toilets were also very clean and well maintained.

It’s in a great location too, being close to Ludlow Castle and the town, which made it really convenient for exploring the area.

不喜欢 The only downside is that the site is right next to an active railway line, so there are trains passing by. However, we already knew this before staying and it didn’t bother us at all.

喜欢 WONDERFUL LOCATION AT LUDLOW RACECOURSE WITH FAR REACHING VIEWS.
CLEAN AND EFFIECIENT TOILETS AND WASH BASINS-PLENTY OF HOT WATER.

不喜欢 POOR SIGNAGE TO SITE-INFACT NO SIGNAGE AS FAR AS I COULD SEE.
ONLY SEEING ANOTHER VAN ALREADY PARKED GAVE US A CLUE!
NO SUGGESTED PARKING POSITIONS.
SOME ROAD NOISE-NOT ENOUGH TO CONCERN US AND FREQUENT TRAINS GOING BY IN THE DAYTIME BUT THEY STOPPED AT NIGHT

喜欢 Easy access to grass area and able to arrive in the morning which was a real bonus for us. Very clean toilet and a nice walk into Ludlow and a farm shop with restaurant less than 1/2 mile away.

不喜欢 The train line is very close and did wake me up a few times, so take ear plugs.

After inspecting the surrounding area from its impressive ramparts, you might like to move on to Stokesay Castle (10 minutes), a historic site with an altogether different vibe as this is a fortified manor house, built by one of medieval England's most powerful wool merchants. Staying in the past, you could explore the agricultural heritage on display at Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (20 minutes), or instead zoom forward a few hundred years to the Industrial Revolution by exploring the Ironbridge Gorge Museum (40 minutes), located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the Severn. If you don't mind roaming slightly further from base, you could visit the famed medieval Mappa Mundi at Hereford Cathedral (40 minutes), let the kids go and say hi to the animals and birds at West Midland Safari Park, take nostalgia-tinged train rides aboard the lovingly preserved Severn Valley Railway in Kidderminster (50 minutes) or head out hiking in the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).
