Water views, a pretty Oxfordshire setting and a rather smart village up the road… that’s the fine mix on offer at Camping Westmoor Farm, a rural retreat in a woodland setting on the edge of the Cotswolds. Camping Westmoor Farm’s modern and spacious bell tents are hidden away between a pond, woodlands and farmland roughly a mile outside of the village of Bampton, where there’s a pub, coffee shop, small supermarket and post office (and whose streets you may recognise from its starring role in Downton Abbey). The tents come fully furnished, with a double bed, single bed and single airbed (but please note you’ll need to bring bedding along). In terms of practicalities, guests here get access to well-maintained eco-friendly toilets and outdoor showers, plus a handy camping kit containing high-spec cooking equipment, cups, kettle etc (a small deposit is required). Shared facilities include outdoor cooking areas (with gas barbecue and hob), seating and a firepit (order your logs at the time of booking, or bring your own along). Well-behaved dogs are welcome, as are kids, who have an outdoor play area, basketball and go-karts for burning off excess energy. The site is about a mile north of the River Thames, which can be crossed by road at Tadpole Bridge, home to a very popular pub. Wandering westwards along the Thames Path, you'll soon reach Chimney Meadows National Nature Reserve, while the pretty old village of Radcot is a similar distance away to the east (with another lovely pub).

喜欢 Communication with owners was great - lovely woodland setting for our van, site was quiet and facilities ok once you get used to the composting toilets and no WiFi

不喜欢 Open sink area for washing - maybe just a curtain you can draw across would be good and also a mirror in there

喜欢 Good layout & facilities for tent stays

不喜欢 Zero sleep. A large group arrived back at 11pm and lit up the tent with car headlights, shouted and played loud music the entire night until we could take any more and left at 4am

喜欢 Wonderful woodland setting, camping spot felt secluded, good facilities, lovely playground, easy check in.

不喜欢 Very loud group camping at the same time, loud music and chatter until late and then again early in the morning, did not respect quiet times. It would have been nice if someone was around to remind people to be respectful.

喜欢 Very quiet campsite. Lots of shade. We stayed in the Deluxe Lodge which is situated amongst the trees so sheltered from rain and sun. Hot water for washing up right outside the cabin.

不喜欢 The TV didn't work, no toaster, showers were out of order so had to use the more 'back to basics' ones.

喜欢 The wooded glade was perfect for camping in boiling hot weather! Sheltered, keeping the tent cool for sleeping, even in 33 degrees heat.
Site feels very safe and secure in a great location.
Toilets clean and not smelly (again, surprising in such hot weather.) Washing facilities clean and serviceable.
Park for children age 8 and under was lovley.
Wildlife was gorgeous, lots of birdsong, super for a rural camp. Woods were great for the boys to build dens and play.

不喜欢 Showers were satisfactory, basic and hot water was hit and miss bit fine for 2 nights.
Lots of instructions on the websites incorrect (hot water switches, rules about parking cars, bin situation.) If these were updated it would be easier to navigate the rules of the park.

TV buffs may recognise some of Bampton’s streets (five minutes’ drive), as this location was used to shoot village scenes in Downton Abbey – serious fans of the series could also drive south to Highclere Castle (45 minutes), whose imposing architecture and gorgeous gardens appeared in pretty much every episode. Similarly grand surrounds are also on display at Buscot Park (15 minutes) and Blenheim Palace (35 minutes). Heading west into the Cotswolds National Landscape (15 minutes) is another bright idea – you have the choice between traditional market towns like Stow-on-the-Wold (half an hour), zoos like Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens (15 minutes) and Crocodiles of the World (20 minutes) or the foliage at The National Arboretum in Westonbirt (an hour). To the east, Oxford (25 minutes) has illustrious seats of learning – including Christ Church and Magdalen colleges, which are both particularly scenic – plus world-class museums and vantage points like Carfax Tower and St Mary’s Church where you can admire the splendid cityscape below. There’s also ample scope for punting yourself up and down the river or taking a gentle boat cruise on the Thames.
