Encompassing a 232-acre site in glorious Nottinghamshire countryside, Belvoir Waters is an eco-friendly, off-grid site with one golden rule: be as environmentally thoughtful as possible. And here, you'll be staying among natural woodland, surrounded by three lakes covering 80 acres of water. This is a very peaceful place where couples and families can wander around the lakes and stroll the woodland walks, listening out for some of the 180 bird species spotted in the area. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too. You’ll need to be self-sufficient here as the site is completely off-grid, so it’s best to add in a barbecue as well as bits and bobs for cooking when you’re packing. But don’t worry too much about the packing – anything you’ve forgotten can be picked up in Newark-on-Trent (10 minutes’ drive), which has plenty of supermarkets as well as fish and chip shops or Chinese takeaways. Newark Royal Market (on Wednesdays) has been held in the market square pretty much non-stop since the 12th century, and it’s a special treat to rummage around the stalls for fresh local produce.

喜欢 Back to basics and back to nature.
Beautiful surroundings.
Quiet and peaceful.
Clean and tidy.
Lovely off road walks.
Pub nearby.
4g/5g signal good (in case you need tech).
Owner helpful and responsive.
Large pitches, well spaced, giving privacy and feeling as though you are really wild camping.
The cleanest portaloo I've ever seen!

不喜欢 The pitches were on very uneven ground, making walking in reduced light a little tricky. Although, overall were fairly level, we didn't need levelling ramps.
Lots of weeds on the pitch, mainly thistles.
The lake was beautiful, but quite stinky (I guess to be expected), just a warning if you take your dog, you'll need to be able to wash them off otherwise they'll pong lol.
At £30, a little pricey for a back to basics site.

喜欢 Beautiful views, very casual wild campsite. We parked in some trees right by the lake. Can swim, paddle board.
Alan the owner very friendly and helpful.
This was the best site we have been on in the 2 weeks we have been travelling around.

喜欢 Gorgeous setting pitches are separated and you feel very private as not next to anyone loved our stay and will be going back. Also the lake is a bonus great for our blow up boat!

喜欢 Peaceful tranquility. Relaxed, off-grid almost wild camping. Small number of pitches. Bird life on the lake. Great to have a fire.

不喜欢 It would be good if there was a water point on the site. Just as well we knew to bring our own water.
Price is more than I might have expected to pay.. but I guess the tranquility made it worth it.

Belvoir Castle (15 minutes’ drive) may well be your first stop. Built in the early 19th century, it has adventure playgrounds and woodland paths for kids and dogs to run around in, as well as guided tours of the 'big house'. When you’ve had your fill of history, you can replenish energy levels at the restaurants, ice-cream parlours and unusual shops at The Engine Yard retail village. Lovers of old houses might also like to glance over Elizabethan-era Wollaton Hall (40 minutes) and its manicured parkland – they do a spooky ghost tour (one way to make the kids behave) and lots of Tudor-themed events during summer. If you’d prefer to get more active on your holiday, there are plenty of cycling and walking trails – for all levels – all around the campsite. There’s also a riding school (five minutes), a couple of golf courses and a public swimming pool (all 20 minutes).
