For days of leisure, nearby Coffeyville has an aquatic centre equipped with two waterslides, a zero-depth pool and a recreational room. The town also has the Aviation Heritage Museum, covering the history of aviation in Coffeyville, and the Brown Mansion, built in 1904 and open to the public. Coffeyville was the scene of the demise of the Dalton Gang, who tried to rob the bank here in 1892. Four of the gang were killed in the resulting shootout, along with four townspeople killed defending the town: find out the whole tale at the Dalton Defenders Plaza & Death Alley and the Dalton Defenders Museum. A short drive from Big Chief are the challenging hills and waterways of the Hillcrest 18-hole golf course, owned by the city. Cart rentals are available and there's a driving range. Oklahoma's second biggest city Tulsa is about 75 miles away.
