Forest walks, beach days, family zoo trips, city wanderings – folks who favour a whole heap of variety on their holidays will do well here. Vakantiepark Bonte Vlucht is just outside the small town of Doorn (handy for shops and restaurants) and half an hour’s drive from Utrecht for canalside strolls and museum visits. Loads of family-friendly days out are nearby (zoos, amusement parks, horse riding and a lake beach for starters) and the site is in the middle of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, with direct access to walking paths when the urge takes you for a ramble or a bike ride. There’s much to do on site too: an all-weather tennis court, sports field, table tennis and bowling alley for active times, and a heated open-air pool with large sunbathing lawn; rather niftily, the pool area is overlooked by the restaurant terrace. As well as meals, snacks and drinks, the restaurant’s also the place to gather in the evenings for entertainment and games. There’s plenty of entertainment laid on during the day too, with the kids’ club organising outings and on-site activities every day in high season.

Before you venture out into the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, have a chat with the folks on site who have much wisdom to impart on the subject of walking and bike routes through the forests, heaths, marshes and sand dunes all around. They’ve got bikes for hire too, and can point you in the direction of other activities including horse riding, canoeing and swimming from the lake beach at Henschotermeer. It's half an hour's drive from the site to Utrecht (or 45 minutes on the bus), where you can wander along the canals (flanked by tall colourful buildings reminiscent of those in Amsterdam), climb the Dom Tower (the tallest church tower in all the land) and visit some fab museums including the Miffy Museum and the railway museum. And there are many more ways to fill your days – perhaps learning to make cheese at De Weistaar farm and cheese museum (10 minutes’ drive), meeting the animals at Dierenpark Amersfoort zoo, seeing the planes at the national military museum or playing glow in the dark golf at GlowGolf Houten, all 25 minutes away ...?

Tyckte inte om Nothing is in English so it was a bit of a struggle.
There is only one toilet block for the entire park.
The final balance from pitchup was less than i was expected to pay upon arrival.

sanitary facilities perfect and regularly cleaned.

Tyckte inte om after booking a pitch at the site and paying a deposit I was disappointed on arrival to be charged £35 euros more than the booking price.

Tyckte om Schöner Platz mit Sonne und Schatten. Gutes Restaurant lecker und freundlich.

Tyckte inte om Im Oktober war nur 1 Dusche und 1 Toilette geöffnet von eh nur jeweils 4. Wir fühlten uns nicht wirklich willkommen. Keine Nachtruhe viel Verkehr auf dem Platz auch mitten in der Nacht.

Tyckte om A great site, that we’d happily return to. We had a pitch on veld (field) A. Close to the main area of the site, including the pool, bar, playground, tennis court, and restaurant.

Shower block in veld A was always clean and never any queues. Showers were free, with a six minute timer for hot water.

Swimming pool was heated, this took the edge off and meant later in the day it was pleasant to swim in, the kids happily swam in it all day.

Staff were friendly, with excellent English. Food in the cafe and restaurant was good and reasonably priced.

No shop on site, but Doorn was five minutes drive away and had decent supermarkets.
