Plenty of family-friendly and outdoor options for all tastes are within a few kilometres of the site, including making a splash close to home at the Acqua Village de Cecina waterpark, 750 metres away; getting up close with the critters of Parco Gallorose zoo (two kilometres), and tackling some Tuscany surfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, parasailing and kitesurfing, all available within three kilometres. The castle, shops and vineyards of fab Bolgheri are 15 kilometres away, in an old town famed throughout Italy – and worldwide – for its Etruscan wines: this place may be teeny, but it has mighty tasty vino. A few kilometres from Bolgheri is Castagneto Carducci, a hillside town with medieval castle. The thermal baths of Sassetta 35 kilometres away have spa water pools of temperatures up to 38°C, a sauna and a good range of wellness treatments; you could also pamper your good self among the thalassotherapy of Marina di Castagneto, or have a dip in the small thermal lake of Calidario in Venturina. For day trips, the ferry from to Elba from Piombino is 40 kilometres away, Pisa 60, San Gimignano 70 and Lucca 80.
