Hire a bike and get pedalling, to the nearby town of Dolus-d'Oleron a kilometre away, indoor tennis half a kilometre away or to the local golf course or horse riding centre, both three kilometres away. The slides, flumes, pools and surf wall of the IIéo waterpark are 500 metres from the site. Also within an easy pedal is the Marais aux Oiseaux nature reserve (four kilometres), a wildlife and rescue centre covering 50 hectares of hardwood and salt marshes. Birds, turtles, deer and farm animals are among the species that can be seen at the centre, open daily in July and August and most days during the rest of the year. To delve into the history of the island, both the Île d'Oléron Museum and the Fort-Royer oyster farms are within 10 kilometres, and the 17th-century fortress, exhibitions and events of the citadel of Le Château-d'Oléron is 12 kilometres away. Chassiron lighthouse, on the northern tip of the island, has a museum as well as spectacular views over Oléron's east coast, Fort Boyard and the Île de Ré. Watersports such as canoeing, sea kayaking, scuba diving, sailing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding are all available within 10 kilometres.
