Hidden away in a 50-acre pine forest on Nord-Pas-de-Calais’s Opal Coast, Camping La Dune Blanche is a peaceful site with electric hooks-ups for its partially shaded grass pitches. The soundtrack here is one of birdsong and the whisper of trees in the wind – and yet it’s an easy hop to the famed seaside resort of Le Touquet (10 minutes’ drive) if you’re looking to spend time on a lively beach. If you’d rather chill out on site, daily life centres on the heated outdoor swimming and paddling pools with a splash fountain, and there’s much more going on for all ages, from kids’ clubs to football competitions, aquagym classes to beach volleyball games. You’re well-served on the catering front as well, with a restaurant serving pizzas (parents can keep an eye on their offspring in the pool from the restaurant terrace, by the way), a licensed bar and a snack bar for quick fill-ups for the kids. There are also barbecues if you prefer to go down the self-catering route. Practical facilities to help your family camping break go smoothly include washing machines and – in case you’ve left anything vital behind at home – you can hire baby equipment too.

Tyckte om Friendly Reception staff who spoke great English, option to choose own pitch, price, plenty of sinks and clean toilets. Site security was very present, new children's playground was nice and fairly shaded. Proximity to nice beaches.

Tyckte inte om Toilets and showers in swimming pool were pretty stinky and dirty, bar/pool/ playground were quite far to walk from camping area. Dirt/sand path meant that you got dirty walking in flip flops back from showers to pitch. The sink/toilet area could do with better lighting by steps as very dark at night.

Tyckte inte om Absolutely awful campsite so bad we didn't even stay one night.. we were given an electric pitch which didn't have electric you had to drag your cable through another pitch up a steep over grown bank which had glass in it. When staff asked why they advertised it as electric they admitted it shouldn't be as the electric is unreachable. The pitch was also sand when clearly advertised as grass. When asked why they didn't contact us to tell us of the issues as they admit we had been mis sold we were told it's pitch ups issue not there's no refund possible. Awful place after 25 years of camping in France worst experience ever.

Tyckte om Clean toilets, moved our pitch when didn't like the original one and nice pool. Some of the pitches are large and the setting of the campsite is nice, we had a nice one. The staff were nice too. Good location close to a few nice towns.

Tyckte inte om We received an email less than a month before our holiday saying we could no longer have an electric pitch and that we could either cancel or have non electric. We asked to have a non electric pitch but to be refunded the difference in cost. I asked multiple times about this and they kept saying they'd get back to me but never did. I tried to ring to ask a few questions about our booking prior to arriving but it was very difficult to get through. Showers were warm most of the time but a couple of nights were very cold which wasn't great with children. The pool was nice but was expecting it to be warmer than it was.

Go kayaking in the Baie de Canche (five minutes) to discover the coastline from a different perspective, or calm things down with a round on the links course at Golf du Touquet (15 minutes). Grab walking boots and binoculars before heading for Canche Bay Nature Reserve (direct from the site) to hike the reed beds and waterways in search of migratory birds. Alternatively, scamper up the 152-metre Mont Saint-Frieux in the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Natural Park (10 minutes’ drive) for stunning views across the dunes. Keep the kids busy on the climbing walls and rope courses at Opalaventure Park (five minutes), which has activities for all ages. Another splendid day out with the family is Parc Bagatelle (20 minutes), an amusement park with waterslides and rollercoasters.
