Active types should find more than enough to keep them busy in the Morvan Regional Natural Park – hikes and bike rides cater for all levels of fitness and take in forest trails, hill climbs and village visits. Popular Lac des Settons is around an hour’s drive away for sailing, windsurfing and other watersports; you can take a dip there too, or cool off closer to home at Luzy’s swimming pool, a kilometre from the site. If you’re more of a seeking-out-historic-sites sort, make a beeline for Bibracte, an ancient hillfort half an hour away, or venture to the pretty Chateau de la Verrerie (45 minutes’ drive) and Château de Couches (55 minutes). Autun, half an hour away, makes a top day out with ramparts and Roman ruins to ramble around. Those with tiddlers in tow may like to check out the kid-friendly amusement parks Diverti’Parc and Parc des Combes (20 and 40 minutes away respectively). Meanwhile, folks who’ve wrangled a bit of grownup time can beetle off to Beaune (an hour and 15 minutes away) for gently squiffy days meandering around vineyards (and oui, you can get there by train to avoid altercations over whose turn it is to drive).
