Ever fancied seeing what it’s like to spend the night in a round bed? Well, here’s your chance – the spacious yurts at Yourtes Coccinelles have a pleasing symmetry between their round tents and the unusual round beds contained within.
A quick look at the pics for this site will show you that those beds aren’t the only draw here – the yurts are also kitted out with Mongolian furniture, carefully selected decorations and handy things like a dining area (with hot meal baskets available for delivery on request, and a fridge in the yurt to keep your drinks suitably chilled).
And that’s not where it ends… each of the yurts also has its own ensuite bathroom (with a proper bath, a dry toilet and towels provided), and an outside space that’s got a barbecue and a very fab private hot tub under a little shelter to ensure you can bubble away in all weathers.
All of this is set up in a lovely eco-friendly natural spot in the Aquitaine countryside, just outside the little village of Conchez-de-Béarn and 15 minutes’ drive from the bigger Aire-sur-l’Adour (your best bet for stocking up at supermarkets and finding a good range of restaurants).
The surrounding area is crisscrossed by lots of hiking and bike trails through vineyards and natural open spaces – if you fancy a nice easy way to get around all of this, you can hire electric mountain bikes on site to give you a bit of extra power.

Fancy a glass of wine? You’ve come to a good area for that – there are several wineries and vineyards to visit in the area, for tours, tastings and picking up a bottle to sip back at your yurt (or in your hot tub…) If you don’t know where to start, the Maison des Vins in Madiran (15 minutes’ drive) lets you sample a few before you decide which château to set off for.
Of course, you could always go out for a hike or bike ride without stopping for a drink – if you choose to do that, maybe aim instead for some of the pretty local churches or historic sites like the Gallo-Roman Villa de Lalonquette (an hour by bike/15 minutes’ drive).
Add a bit of animal-spotting to your tour with stops to meet the camels at La Maison des Chameaux (20 minutes’ drive) or see falconry displays at Parc aux Rapaces (10 minutes), or get ready for the races at Hippodrome de Pau (35 minutes).
