If you've ever wistfully dreamed of having your own houseboat, the Lot's Cabanes Flottantes du Lac de Pélisse is the next best thing. It has floating cabins on its accompanying two-hectare lake, where you can fish without leaving your deck, have petit dejeuner and coffee outdoors with the water below and greenery all around, and be rocked gently to sleepytime with the lake lapping below your berth.
You'll board a boat to drift over to yout floating cabin, to have spectacular stays in a 15m² lodge sleeping up to four in a double bed and bunks, with linen provided and beds already made up. Electricity and heating is provided, as is breakfast each morning: brekkie on deck is of course where you'll take your most boastworthy pics.
Cabanes Flottantes du Lac de Pélisse is next to Pélisse lake in the Lot-et-Garonne, three kilometres from the commune of Douzains, about 40 minutes' drive from Bergerac and Monbazilla vineyards and just over an hour from Dordogne. It's surrounded by comely medieval villages, small farms, forests and lakes, for walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking and yet more fishing; for city sightseeing, Bergerac is half an hour to the north.
Barbecue facilities and a playground are provided on the landlubber part of the site, along with modern washrooms with toilets and hot showers and a parent and baby washroom.

Trot along to the tourist office at nearby Castillonnès (about seven minutes' drive or 40 minutes by foot) to investigate what you might get up to in the area, such as horse-drawn carriage and saddle rides within a few kilometres of the site, or more energetic adventures along the Castillonnès hiking and cycling circuit, within four kilometres.
The scenic seven-hectare lake of Lougratte, 10 minutes' drive to the south, has a white sandy beach that's lifeguarded in summer, pedalo, canoe and boat hire, a diving platform and a snack bar. Amble into Lougratte village afterwards to pick up tasty local produce such as foie gras and cheese from the farm shop.
The bastide town of Villeréal is within 20 minutes' drive for a viewsome town day: bag the guided walk leaflet from the Villeréal tourist office to weave through town past famed old piles like the mammoth 14th-century market hall, where markets still run every Saturday. For more old sights, drive half an hour north to the Dordogne city of Bergerac, to nose around the town museum, tobacco museum and splendid old wine house.
