A lovely green riverside location is a very good thing for a chilled-out holiday, but then so is a spot that’s close to attractions and amenities to make it easy to keep your whole tribe fed, watered and entertained for the duration. If only you could somehow combine the two, right? Well, here’s a place that ticks boxes on both fronts – Périgord Noir site Camping du Bournat is in an enviable spot on the banks of the Vézère river, so it’s a very green, calm and attractive site with plenty of open space and access to the river for fishing and swimming. Despite the pretty and peaceful atmosphere, this is no remote location – in fact, this site is on the edge of the village of Le Bugue, putting lots of shops, restaurants and other handy things within easy reach. Entertainment, too – one of the real highlights here is that you’ll get discounted access to Parc du Bournat, the largest theme park in the Dordogne, which is an easy 10 minutes’ stroll away. Don’t fancy walking that far? Stay put then – there’s plenty to keep you amused on site, including three swimming pools (one of which is covered and heated for those cooler days), several pétanque courts, a basketball court, ping pong tables and a play area with a trampoline. Eats are equally well catered for here – you can either pick up ingredients at the shop and head to the barbecue area or have someone else do the cooking at the restaurant, which has a bar and takeaway service as well as hosting sociable themed evenings in high season.

Tyckte inte om Fermeture de la barrière à 22h trop tôt si on veux sortir le soir. 23h30-24h serait bien. Pas d'éclairage dans les allées .Rat aux niveaux des poubelles.

Lady in reception was lovely

Tyckte inte om Facilities were awful. Toilets disgusting and facing the campsite. Showers grim.
Pool was like being in a sardine tin. No room to swim and about 10 sun loungers. We paid €30 to hire a fridge which stunk. I cleaned it out but we only used it for drinks as it was vile. Water point practically on our pitch so had to put up with people washing their feet etc while you were sat at your table. Booked 6 nights but only stayed for 2. Not our idea of fun at all

Tyckte om TREES! Beautiful shaded site, lovely pool near town centre but also alongside the river. Loved our stay here. Loads to do and a great campsite

Tyckte om Great location near to lots of activities for all ages and a short bike ride into the Centre. Whilst the site was quite big it was still quiet. You can pay a special rate to gain direct and unlimited access to the Bournat theme park where you can step back in time with children’s rides, restaurants and entertainment. Watching the fireworks at them them park and then whilst sat on our pitch was fabulous. Pitches were spacious and the showers and toilets were clean although there were times when there was a small que.
By showing your wrist band also got you a discount when hiring a canoe from the Centre just down the road from the site as the river is opposite the site.

Tyckte inte om Pool was great but felt it was a little small for the size of the site as it did get busy and there weren’t enough loungers. There were two pools but most people favoured the outdoor pool in the sunny weather.
The bins were away from the pitches but they were full for the duration of our stay (3 nights) and were very smelly.

Tyckte om Everything ! Pitch great size, facilities clean and tidy, nice bar area around pool very friendly and helpful staff. Great that if you by a park ticket it lasts for the duration of your visit, you get a tag and there is gate access from the campsite so you don’t have to queue at entrance and can come and go as you please.

Tyckte inte om Very small Niggle It was very hot and they ran out of beer on tap a couple of times in the bar not sure if this was just because people were drinking more with weather, they did have bottle options available but not as nice

Tyckte om Tout ce qui était proposé par le camping : piscines propres, équipement des sanitaires parfait. Emplacement convenant aux demandes. Accueil parfait.

Tyckte inte om Le seul point quelques peu négatif serait les musiques tardives en provenance du parc à côté du camping.

The family that runs this site has been involved with tourism in the Dordogne for around 30 years, and they’ve employed a knowledgeable and friendly team to help all guests make the most of their stay in this wonderful area. Their recommendations are likely to start very locally, as Le Bugue has an excellent market, several hiking and bike trails and places to go canoeing. Close to the village is the Bara-Bahau cave (five minutes’ drive/half an hour’s walk), where you can see a decorated prehistoric cave. You’ll also be able to step back in time at the history-themed Parc du Bournat (10 minutes’ walk). Also close by are the Aquarium Périgord Noir (10 minutes’ walk), the adventure trails of Le Bois des Lutins (10 minutes’s drive) and the waterslides of Jacquou Parc (15 minutes). Further afield, the likes of Sarlat-la-Canéda, the Lascaux caves (both half an hour) or Périgueux (50 minutes) might also be on your list – not forgetting the Dordogne river (15 minutes), with all its châteaux and canoe trips.
