Have yourself a holiday poking around castles, climbing Welsh hills and going for dips at local coves… dog-friendly Penllechog Camping is on a quiet working beef and sheep farm at the base of Gurn Ddu on the spectacular Llŷn Peninsula. With a sheltered three-acre field as your base, here you’ll be surrounded by tall conifer trees and lots of typical Welsh greenery. At this peaceful getaway, facilities include two LPG-powered hot showers, composting toilets and a washing-up area. The site's fresh water comes directly from the natural springs at the foot of Gurn Ddu, the impressive hill you can see from the site. There are plenty of walks directly from Penllechog Camping, too. Follow the footpaths through the fields and meadows to make a loop back to the site. Other excellent options are hiking up Gurn Ddu, Gyrn Goch, Yr Eifl or Tre'r Ceiri Hillfort, or over to Trefor beach. Handily for the start of your hikes, drinks can be kept cool in a shared fridge located in a barn, just a short distance from the main pitching field. Although the site feels remote, being high up, excellent for stargazing and a little over a mile from the nearest village, Penllechog Camping is actually in a conveniently central location. At the village, five minutes' drive away, there is a community convenience shop (open at select times in the morning and afternoon), a launderette and a doctor's surgery. For towns, it's a 15-minute drive into Pwllheli and 25 minutes to Caernarfon. Trefor beach can be reached by car in about 10 minutes, while Nefyn has two sandy beaches 20 minutes down the road.

Tyckte om My partner and I had a lovely and tranquil stay at Penllechog Camping. We really liked that our pitch had space for our car, so we could keep all our supplies safe from the rain. There was a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance and plenty of space around the campsite, so you didn't feel on top of the other campers. The facilities suited our needs really well, the compost toilets were comfortable and kept very clean, and the showers were nice and warm. I'd really recommend this campsite for anyone who would like to take a trip off grid and spend time in beautiful Wales.

Tyckte om Quiet site, enjoyed the peace and tranquility. The scenery was lovely from our pitch. The hosts were lovely, I didnt see them much but when I did they were informative and helpful.

Tyckte inte om On arrival I drove past the camp entrance by accident, there were loose working dogs, 1 was attacking my car tyre. Given the fact this is a camp site with guests, I think a working dog that is prone to biting car tyres should be kept away from guests. I understand its a working dog, but the booking does say report to someone on arrival, this is impossible when your car is being attacked by a dog. My car was not damaged but I do think its important for people to be aware of the dog incase a tyre is blown at some point.

Tyckte om We had a very bad experience at this campsite. The owner treated us very rudely and asked us to leave the campsite. The only reason was that we were sitting outside and talking. He told us to go inside our tent and sleep.

We found this behaviour extremely rude and unacceptable. I would definitely not recommend this campsite.

Tyckte om Very quiet and relaxing campsite. We stayed 8 nights and loved the views in day and night. ( the stars were amazing)
Compost toilets are not for everyone, but we’re kept very clean and the showers was nice and hot . Very friendly farmers and their collies. We loved our stay .

Tyckte om Beautiful campsite. Small, in a beautiful surroundings. In the middle of small forest and surrounded by mountains. I dont really comeback to the same place second time, but I think this is will be the first place I will be back again!
Two showers,
Two toilets,
Small slide and swings for kids.
Large field to play and run around if they wish.
Only around 8 tent pitches available in total.
The onwer Linda was very helpful and friendly person. Was pleasure to meet her :)

The star gazing at night is incredible!!!!

With mountains and a gorgeous fishing village as your backdrop, dips are pretty splendid at Trefor beach (10 minutes' drive)… but that’s not the only place on the coast that will be calling your name from Penllechog Camping. Pretty Portmeirion (35 minutes) has Italianate-style architecture, a spa and laidback strolls across the village, while Abersoch (30 minutes) is a sailing haven with boat trips to St Tudwal or coastal walks leading the way to further adventure. The sandy stretch in Nefyn is another rather attractive option. When you want some sort of adventure without delay, there’s direct access to a trail to Gurn Ddu (a hill with great views over the sea). Otherwise, sling a picnic in your bag and make off for a castle of your choosing: the coastal Criccieth Castle (25 minutes) or medieval Caernarfon Castle (30 minutes) perhaps? If it’s thrills you’re after, then GreenWood Family Park (40 minutes) or Zip World Slate Caverns (an hour) will fulfil those – the latter has huge zipwires or underground trampolines for a unique day out.
