Hoping for some holidays close to the high Welsh peaks? Tan Aeldroch Farm is a sprawling Welsh sheep farm with green Gwynedd views right across Snowdonia National Park. This 42-acre site has a wild feel to it, although the grounds are always well maintained (courtesy of the flocks of live-in lawnmowers that you'll be sharing with). Bordered by the river Lledr on one side and woodland on the other, the farm has plenty of secluded spots, trees to climb and rocks to clamber over. Handily, though, it's within a couple of hundred yards of the A470, opening up many options for off-site jaunts (including trips to the sea, about half an hour's drive away). The farm's eco-conscious owners have been working to restore the natural balance of this part of the valley since 2003 – help them up by making sure that you leave no trace when settling down here. The facilities at Tan Aeldroch Farm are basic, but you can count on flushing loos and a standpipe. Getting chilly in the evening? Make your own heat by setting up a fire in one of the designated firepits (please bring your own wood). To keep things as peaceful as possible, don't use radios or stereos if hanging by at the pitches, ta. The nearest bar and food shop are in Dolwyddelan, a couple of villages down the main road (five minutes' drive). You can also catch a train here if arriving without a car and book a taxi to the site. The owners are present at the site during weekends, but may not be available midweek.

Tyckte om: I’ve stayed here a few times and it had to be one of my favourite campsites in snowdonia. Facilities are good for a short stay and the atmosphere of the place is so nice. The campsite sells logs which has came in useful many times! There is a barrier around uneven ground, making sure everyone is set up on solid, even ground. The staff are contactable by a phone number which is really useful if the reception is closed. All the other campers are very friendly and it’s such a pleasurable experience!

Tyckte inte om: No shower but it does tell you there’s no showers and hopefully they finish the shower room otherwise you can’t stay longer

Tyckte om: Beautiful area which is located close to Betws-y-Coed. Lots of walking options available with good toilet block which was kept clean.

Tyckte inte om: We knew the area was farmland but had know idea that sheep would be roaming in the same field as we'd pitched our tent. The holiday was ruined by swarms of midges, I except I should have been better prepared for this but for anyone thinking of staying here please pack the necessary sprays or creams etc. We didn't even stay our first night due to the amount of bites I had.

Tyckte om: Everything about the site looked great and reviews were all positive. Unfortunately I had a mishap and couldn’t actually go to this site. I emailed to explain. The reply was very gracious and understanding. I will book this site again and go as soon as I am able.

Tyckte om: The pitches are behind a locked gate, so it is more secure. The scenery is amazing with a river flowing through the site. You can pitch your vehicle/tent wherever you like within the site. It is located in a lovely area and not hard to find and great for exploring. Almost like wild camping with two flushing toilets but nothing else. Apart from on arrival i didn't see the owners personally.

Tyckte inte om: It is a sheep farm with animals sharing the fields with you so if you don't like sheep this is not for you! Not much cleaning of facilities although the toilet was clean the sinks weren't. Doesn't look like the showers will be built anytime soon.

I walk round the campsite daily to link up with campers and have a chat, The toilets and sinks are cleaned daily, it is important to us to keep to a cleanly standard. Sorry you found the sinks below the proper level We’re working on the shower s, the delay is caused by the poor weather over winter and spring Meanwhile there’s a warm water cubicle in the women’s toilets where women can have a private wash

Coming here to conquer Snowdon? Pen-Y-Pass car park is about half an hour's drive if you're ascending on foot, while the Llanberis station where you can pick up the Snowdon Mountain Railway is also well within range (35 minutes). Make sure to pack sensible clothing if heading out for a hike – any shorts and t-shirts you've brought along can be put to good use on the beach at Llandudno or Colwyn Bay (both 35 minutes). Up for a trip on the longest zipline this side of the equator? Then make for Zip World Fforest (10 minutes' drive), where there's also a kilometre-long rollercoaster that twists downhill through the trees. More adrenaline-fuelled action is to be had at Capel Curig (20 minutes), a peaceful mountain village that's home to the Plas-y-Brenin National Outdoor Centre. Something more sedate? Steer clear of hair-raising Snowdonia activities and instead head for gentler walks at Bodnant Garden (25 minutes) or Conwy Castle (30 minutes).
