After a stay at The Secret Yurts you’ll either want to shout at the top of your voice about this serene site set in woodland within Powys’ green hills or keep it all to yourself… Either way, a glamping experience in the lantern filled, Central Asian-style tents with a woodburning stove, a kingsize bed made from reclaimed wood and fancy feather-stuffed linens is an excellent way to spend a weekend… All settled in? Crack open the champers – you’ll be given an ice bucket to keep your plonk chilled – and ease yourself into your private hot tub to unwind in the open air before drenching yourself in the private rain shower set inside a swish wooden eco-building. Fluffy towels and dressing gowns are provided for towelling off, as well as a hairdryer. When it’s time to sort meals (or counter the effects of the bubbly with a cup of tea or coffee…), a shared farmhouse kitchen is to hand; take your eats outside for alfresco dining with valley views or fire up the barbecue and get cooking over coals. For follow-up sups, try the pubs and wine bar in Llanfair Caereinion (a 10-minute drive away) or pick up supermarket booze over in Welshpool, a quarter of an hour away. To head off on walks in the wilderness of Wales, all you need to do is set off from the site: strolls can be had right from its grounds. And if you’re up for alternative ways to journey through the countryside? The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway is a five minutes’ drive and riding stables plus bike hire are half an hour away.

Hotfoot it to Lake Vyrnwy for waterside expeditions 35 minutes away – this big body of water is a prime place for canoeing and kayaking. And if you’re wanting to see aquatic features of even more of an epic sort? Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains – often called one of the Seven Wonders of Wales – is 45 minutes away; feel free to have a rest in the coffee shop if you’ve braved the four-mile walk from Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant). It's great to hear that you loved so much of your stay, especially that you'd visit again and enjoyed the seclusion. Pairing seclusion, woodland and views can be tricky and I appreciate with the trees in full leaf the views do disappear a bit! I've contacted our tree surgeon and over the next few months we will open up the views a bit whilst maintaining the all important privacy and seclusion. The woodland is growing fast and its definitely time to start thinning out a bit.
