In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

Tyckte om: The best campsite we've stayed at so far. Absolutely beautiful scenery and a beautiful site. The facilities are incredible - dishwasher, sinks for washing up (bring a plug though), family bathrooms (shame these were all out of action when we went though), lovely clean shower/toilet areas, showers with changing area within the cubicles, well situated mirrors with hairdryers (could do with some plugs though so we could use our own appliances), water points dotted all around, lovely little dog walking areas and the staff were very friendly. Can't wait to visit again.

Tyckte inte om: The only negative is that we had trouble pitching the tent as the ground was rock after a couple inches of grass meaning it was difficult to get the pegs in.

Tyckte om: Fabulous site with great views down to Lynmouth. Very peaceful. The site was kept extremely clean with great facilities. The staff were really friendly and helpful. You would need transport as very high up unless you are good with walking up hills. Definitely be back.

Tyckte om: I cannot fault this place, it is perfect. The staff are wonderful, the site is beautiful, facilities clean and there's so much to do nearby. We stayed with our dog and he loved it too (and the staff loved him which was so nice to see!) We find a new campsite each month and this is by far our favourite - can't wait to return for my birthday in July. Thank you :)

Tyckte om: Everything was excellent, no issues at all. Main points - staff very helpful and pleasant; location was great; facilities clean, well presented and very high standard (although I will echo previous reviews in that the water was far too hot in the showers); site very well maintained; enclosed dog exercise area a bonus; footpaths to various parts of the area on the doorstep. Things to consider - due to the amazing location it can get windy (I didn't feel I could use my awning) & local shops have very little choice but there is an excellent pasty shop in Lynmouth.

Tyckte om: EVERYTHING! The staff are really friendly and helpful. The grounds were well kept, clean and tidy. All the facilities were really clean. Stunning views, peaceful and remote with the 2 nearby towns (Lynton and Lynmouth) easily accessible by both foot and road, both towns are also beautiful and picturesque, full of nature walks, cliffs, coastlines and forests. I loved it there that much as soon as I was home I rebooked for 8 weeks time! I will be staying here regularly for many many years to come.

Lokala sevärdheter

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
