Want to get away from the chaos of modern life without sacrificing too many of your creature comforts? At Owl Valley Glamping, a peaceful site less than two miles from the town of Bideford in north Devon, you get the best of both worlds: no internet, no electricity – just somewhere comfy to spend your break. What a hoot. Owl Valley is paradise for walkers, nature spotters and sand fans: the site is a 10-minute drive from the beach at Westward Ho! and under an hour from the north Devon coast. The 32-mile traffic-free Tarka Trail for walkers and cyclists is within easy reach, passing through nearby Bideford, and there are plenty of walks along the South West Coast Path too. Back on site, explore the private nature reserve that you’ll be calling home during your stay: wander through the woodlands, sit on the banks of the pond or stream and, at all times, keep your eyes peeled for wildflowers, butterflies, woodland birds and the occasional deer. When it's time for dinner, fire up your barbecue or get that campfire going – you can pick up supplies and essentials in Bideford, or just skip cooking altogether and have a bite at one of the quayside town’s restaurants. Don’t expect to be bingeing Netflix in the evenings – instead, kick back and turn your gaze to the stars, unwinding with the sounds of owls’ hooting and the stream running through the site playing in your ears.

Tyckte om: Chris was a fantastic host, very welcoming and took all our bags down to the bell tent, it was fabulous, well stocked, clean and such a beautiful place. Lovely to have time off grid without TV or phones. Games room was full of stuff to do. Recommend building dens with the kids, we had great fun in the dark hunting for random sticks. The fire pit was a lovely ending to our night with wood and fire lighters already there. Listening to the owls and running stream, even the rain didn't spoil it. The compostable toilet and hot shower were clean and tidy. Beds comfortable, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We had a brilliant stay, wish it could have been longer. Thank you for a lovely night's stay.

Tyckte om: Amazing stay at Owl Valley Glamping. Chris greeted us in the carpark & took our belongings to the cabin amazing host. We all had a fantastic time, the kids loved it. So peaceful & really enjoyed. Everything was well equipped with what we needed. It was great with no TV or WiFi really made us appreciate the beautiful surroundings. Best pitch up location, we will hopefully be back again soon.

Long-eared geodetisk kupol

Tyckte om: Fantastic place, so lovely and peaceful and you really get a chance to switch off and relax as there is absolutely no phone signal or mains electricity. Chris was fantastic on both arrival and departure helping us with our bags and cleaning the hot tub and refilling / warming it up in the mornings so it was lovely and toasty by the late afternoon / evening. My only tip would be to plan out any excursions before you arrive, or take an old school map as you can’t google anything until about a mile down the road! We were sad to leave after such a wonderfully relaxing and refreshing stay, thank you so much to Chris and co for looking after us so wonderfully!

Tyckte om: The photos of the Tawny Owl cabin does not give it justice; the accommodation is a beautiful, idyllic, off the grid location to be at one with nature. Chris (the host) was an extremely friendly, helpful, and passionate individual of everything green & sustainable, evident in all aspects of the cabin. The games room was a wonderful unexpected addition, see it to believe it :). The hot tub was perfectly awesome; especially at day break hearing the forest come to life. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is the perfect escape for you. My partner and I had a fabulous four day break, thank you.

Tyckte om: Chris should be awarded as the best host in camping category and so as his entire family. It was the pleasure to be there, to experience peace and nature outside of busy life. There is everything a family need. The stargazing from the hot tub was amazing, just magical while still listening owls and the fast paced stream. Thanks for making this site, truly needed.

We Stayed in Barn Owl cabin that was very cosy and clean, the bed was comfortable and the hot tub was amazing, Chris made us feel very welcome and took our luggage from the car park to our Cabin. The site is so peaceful, relaxing and well looked after, a great place to switch of and unwind. we really enjoyed our stay!

If you haven’t had enough of walking from your excursions on the South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail, never fear: Owl Valley is 40 minutes’ drive from Exmoor National Park, where there are plenty of trails and long-distance routes. There’s also canoeing, sea kayaking, fishing, horse riding and mountain biking to get stuck into, and the less active can pay a visit to Dunster Castle, take a trip on the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway funicular or the West Somerset Railway steam train, or bring the kids to Exmoor Zoo or Watermouth Castle Theme Park. For those who like living at least part of their life on the water, there’s loads to do close to Owl Valley. Have a go at kayaking, body boarding, surfing and rafting in Westward Ho!, or climb aboard a boat in Ilfracombe to spy out dolphins, seals and porpoises on sea safari. A visit to Clovelly is a must – the stunning seaside village, 20 minutes from Owl Valley, has oodles of character. It’s also entirely traffic free, so you can wander the cobbled streets sharing the roads with donkeys and human-powered sledges, and looking out over Bideford bay.
