Orchard View Holiday Park is a peaceful, simple site hidden away in 27 acres of farmland near Maidstone in Kent. It’s just the spot for escapist family breaks in tranquil countryside, and you’ll also be rewarded with views across the apple orchards and fields full of grazing cows Despite the rural location, you’re not too far away from anything however, with a handy store in Wateringbury (10 minutes’ drive) for picking up bits and bobs, and large supermarkets in Maidstone if you need to do a big shop. If you’re after a break from cooking (barbecues are allowed on site by the way), head for one of the many traditional cider pubs in the local villages. There’s only a handful of grass pitches available at this back-to-basics site, but it’s open all year around so you can glimpse the changing seasons during an off-season break too. Amenities include drinking water and waste disposal, but please note there are no loos. The site entrance is locked, so your stuff stays nice and safe when you go off exploring – and you must, because there’s a lot to see and do locally, from historic landmarks to Formula One racing and hop farms tours.

Tyckte om: we been comming here last 3 or 4 years. been here so many times that lost count. perfect for those who loves peace and quet, hence pub is not that far away if you may need one. got stuck after rain and they even helped me out. (i only have normal car so its not best towing vehicle anyways). always clean and tidy. and orchard trees always make me feel like im in the movie scene.

Tyckte inte om: dislike not to park, but to previous visitors - we always park in same spot, and i was so disappointed when this time I found rubish left and frame around pabble water drain broken... didnt had my tools this time so couldnt fix it, just feel sorry for those who disrespect places they visit. we come here with 4 and more kids at the times and they all know how to behave, so kids enjoying them selfs isnt excuse... as i said nothing wrong with site managers and keepers, its people who visit.

Tyckte om: I had a really lovely stay at this location. As a single mum travelling with my 10yo daughter it was as near to wild camping as I could offer. The pitch is gated with a security code so we at all times felt safe which is a huge factor in our satisfaction. The weather conditions were incredibly adverse but the staff, namely Paul made us feel very welcome and offered us a place to charge our phone which was the only gateway to the outside world. I cannot praise the staff enough at making us feel safe whilst experiencing the joy of nature at its fullest. The site is exactly what it states on the tin. No electric or toilet facilities but is a brilliant way for children to step into the realm of nature. We did 9 full days on the site and would have booked more, however the extreme wind meant that some of our tent poles were snapping. We cannot thank Paul enough for making our stay one of my daughters most treasured core memories. We met many different people during our stay and any parents considering removing internet devices from their children for an amount of time, I would wholeheartedly recommend this place. We enjoyed beautiful weather on the first weekend and my daughter made a "pirate ship" out of a trolley and formed a strong cohort of four girls for 3 whole days. We then formed an alliance with a man and his step son who were experimenting with bivvy tarpaulin tents. Please do not come to this site if you expect "mod cons" - it is a stripped back experience and should be judged as such. I have never known such rain but at the same time, we had a lovely time, its benefits will be reaped for more than the time we stayed. Thank you.

Tyckte om: Easy access, could come and go as we needed. Great local walks. Basic, water but no loo but then priced accordingly.

Tyckte inte om: It's a gently sloping sure so you'll need chocks to be totally flat. Risk of getting stuck if it's very wet too.

History combines with family fun at Leeds Castle (25 minutes’ drive), a big hit for its glorious gardens and ornate apartments (mum and dad) and zipwires (the kids), or you can mug up on a legend at Chartwell (40 minutes), where Winston Churchill lived for more than 40 years. Another historic landmark at Ightham Mote (30 minutes), a gorgeous, half-timbered and moated manor open for guided tours. Sporty types can be on the golf course in less than 20 minutes, and there are flat family walks along the East Farleigh Rail Trail (10 minutes). You can hire a narrow boat to potter along the Medway river, divert to the indoor pool at Freedom Leisure Maidstone (15 minutes) on the odd rainy day (this is Kent after all), or change pace and become a spectator at truck-racing rallies at Brands Hatch Circuit (half an hour). Learn about local beer brewing and meet Shire horses at The Hop Farm (10 minutes), or go for a tour and gin tasting at The Maidstone Distillery (20 minutes). And to step further back in time, delve into the rural past at the open-air Kent Life farming museum (25 minutes).
