Lake District walks by day and a cosy place to stay by night – if that sounds like just what you've got in mind, take a look at Windermere Luxury Camping Pods. This dog-friendly Cumbria glamping spot is part of a traditional working farm in the village of Winster, with stunning views of the Lyth Valley and the Lakeland mountains. It's a nifty spot for a Lake District getaway, with animals to see, numerous walking trails around the farm (particularly lovely for a little sunset stroll…) and the amenities of Bowness-on-Windermere (pubs, restaurants and shops among them) about five minutes' drive away. That location puts you within easy reach of all sorts of activities including hiking, climbing, fishing, watersports and golf, plus attractions like The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and the National Trust’s Hill Top. Getting out and about should be nice and easy too, as the site is only a couple of minutes' drive from an A road (close enough for convenience, far enough to be sheltered from any traffic noise). But while the location is an enviable one, it's not the only selling point for this place. The pods are just as lovely, with spectacular views from the deck (which has a barbecue for a bit of scenic outdoor cooking). Each pod has a shower room, a TV and a kitchen (with hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and all the utensils). Luxury bed linen and towels (and a few welcome treats) are included, and wifi and underfloor heating are handy extra touches.

The gorgeous landscapes of the Lake District National Park are all around, with lots of fabulous options for walks and bike rides nearby. Rydal Water (25 minutes’ drive) and Tarn Hows (half an hour) are a couple of popular places to start, but you’ll have plenty of choice. For other activities, perhaps hire canoes or kayaks in Bowness-on-Windermere (five minutes), play a round at Windermere Golf Club (five minutes) or get up into the trees at Go Ape Grizedale (40 minutes). For some of the area’s historic attractions, take a stroll to Blackwell - the Arts & Crafts house (15 minutes’ walk) or visit the National Trust properties at Sizergh (20 minutes) and Hill Top (half an hour). Brantwood (40 minutes), the former home of artist John Ruskin, is another good pick. If you’ve brought the kids along, places like the Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (15 minutes) and Lakes Aquarium (20 minutes) are likely to be on your list. And surely all ages will love a trip to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (five minutes).
