Looking for a Suffolk spot with lots of open space? The dog-friendly Stonham Barns Holiday Park might hit the sweet spot. Well-placed for the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside and coast, this place is equal parts relaxing and active. The latter is very much helped by the fact that the site is part of the Stonham Barns Golf Park site, which has a whole host of family-friendly (and quite frankly fabulous) attractions… There’s a pirate-themed miniature golf course, a sensory room and a funfair with rides and bumper cars, which should all prove a hit with pint-sized guests. No need to go hunting in the trees: the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary on site has over 80 owls and daily flying displays featuring birds of prey. Catch a comedy or tribute act at the Aspal Theatre, sojourn at the fishing lakes or get creative at the pottery painting studio, all of which are on site. Water activities are available on the lake, including paddleboarding, kayaking, zorbs and paddleboard yoga - guests are welcome to bring their own paddleboard or hire. Among these attractions are handy foodie places too. There’s a tearoom if you’re craving an afternoon tea and cake, a restaurant powered by local produce and a village shop selling essential food fare. These pair well with the bar and clubhouse, which has sports screens and celebrity evenings, and a shopping village full of niche independent shops. Along with a showground hosting weekly events like car or dog shows, a Sunday car boot fair and free bouncing pillows, these are all one to two minutes’ walk from the pitches. On the immediate site, however, the facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, disabled facilities, wifi, a kids’ play area and spaces for kids to run around and let off steam. There's also a post office on site which provides cash back and other banking services.

Tyckte om: I liked the way the bathroom were situated withing reasonable walking distance from surrounding pitches, they were lovely and clean. The employees across the whole site were a pleasure to meet and were very helpful answering any queries we had. The grounds were wonderfully maintained. And the veiw from morning to night was absolutely stunning. There is no need to leave the site as the shopping village was full of anything you could want or need and the shop keepers were friendly. And in the personalised t-shirt/mug shop Chester the lovely four legged friend gleefully greeted us as we walked in the door. But we could tell he was definetly working hard and not hardly working. With a plentiful selection of activities for all the kids AND adults to enjoy there is weeks of fun to be had. Not only that, but a bonus of a range of event all throughout the year. I would definetly come again and recommend strongly to all to have a weekend or an even longer stay and stonham barns

Tyckte om: Very lovely warden, so helpful and friendly, lots to do on the site if you want to - mini golf, 9 hole golf course, football golf, shops, cafe, owl sancutury. Car boot sale on Sunday mornings - bar - see below

Tyckte inte om: We were not put on the camping field which we had stayed on before but a small field behind little fun fare and next to on site pub which had a karaoke night which was very loud and did not finish until 11.45pm then noise after that with customers hanging around talking etc. so that was awful for us. I believe there is music on every Saturday during the summer months so if booking make sure you are placed on the proper camping field away from the bar (unless you are ok with that kind of thing)

Tyckte om: We loved the fact the toilets were close by and it was quiet on site. we also liked the cafe on site with lots of toys in perfect for our toddler. The crazy golf was really good although it was a separate supplier and owl sanctuary again seperate supplier. One night the sports bar was open we had lovely food and a good evening playing on the machines. Toilets nice and clean and shower cubicles.

Tyckte inte om: Unfortunately communication wasn't that great at all arrived to find no where open. Eventually got hold of a worker who contacted owners. We was placed on a pitch not on the actual camping bit but it was quiet and near the toilets so we didn't mind. Fun fair fair was closed, land train closed, bouncy pillows defunked, sports bar closed except the last night of our stay and a lot of the shops were closed throughout the time we were there.

Tyckte om: we are regular visitors of Stonham Barns and love the variety of all it has to offer. wardens are always helpful and friendly .

Tyckte inte om: Please can you put more equipment in the children's park, and also get the inflatable fixed . Also with quite a few empty shops allow one of the bigger units to have a soft play and sensory shop to have. I see from another review a lady was disappointed as the soft play was closed and I agree being a family park it would be nice to see it back . Its better to have shops open then closed.

Tyckte inte om: Put on a noisy part of park.We have been using sites all through winter but none as bogged down.Dirty toilets..cold showers not very private.Not enough dog poo bins.Grey waste hard to tip down a toilet which was alsothe Elsan point.

Lokala sevärdheter

With all the attractions on site, it might be a while till you look outwards in search of entertainment. However, when you do, the Suffolk coastline is splendidly within reach, as the site is on the A1120 tourist road. Thorpeness (50 minutes' drive), Aldeburgh (45 minutes) Southwold (50 minutes) deliver on walks, watersports and simple seaside amusements. This is also an excellent place to channel your inner historian and deep dive into the past. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) is a Norman castle with a walk across the 10-metre-high walls. Sutton Hoo (half an hour) is just as spectacular, with two medieval cemeteries where a ship with Anglo-Saxon pieces was found. Perhaps pretty walks and eating out in restored Victorian buildings next? Snape Maltings (40 minutes) on the river Alde is a splendid setting for strolls and cycles, whether around the riverside loop or joining the Suffolk Coast Cycle Route 41. Take in the scenery on a river boat or sip on something caffeinated in the many independent eating venues in the Victorian buildings.
