Ever been to a site which is so good you just want to keep it under wraps? Wend your stealthy way to exceedingly popular The Secret Garden Touring Park in Cambridgeshire’s Fenlands, with accommodation in a green countryside setting within a two-acre garden. You'll spy all sorts of little touches that keep guests coming back: much like the local and migrant wildlife regularly flutters to the flowers and shrubs of the garden, all meticulously developed over years by owners Neil and Lesley to draw in nearby birds, butterflies and beasts like jays, woodpeckers, stoats and hares. The site also has a couple of Gloucester Old Spot pigs. Other little touches at The Secret Garden include an on-site distillery, a communal firepit area, a shop with locally made bacon and sausages, and a ‘hobbit hill’ for the kids to hide out in. All guests have access to two modern shower and toilet blocks, and the kitchen with laundry facilities. Entertainment is available on weekends.

Tyckte om: A lovely, peaceful site with pitches very private. Showers/toilets very clean. Receptionist very helpful. and shop well stocked. A lovely walk into Wisbech. Would recommend.

Tyckte inte om: On entering the site opposite the reception it was very untidy, looked like a rubbish dump. Not a good first impression.

Tyckte om: This is quite possibly my favourite site. The pitches are level, generous and offer privacy if needed but are also laid out to allow you to socialise with your neighbours if you wish. We had breakfast in the café, which was delicious and set us up for the day. It's well located for shopping in Wisbech or exploring further afield.

Tyckte om: A really lovely campsite, the pitch was really private. The facilities were nice and clean. We really enjoyed our stay, it was very dog friendly. The potting shed was great, serving a nice selection of local craft beers and the breakfast was amazing. The staff were lovely too! Would definitely stay here again!

Tyckte om: The pitch was very big and spacious and the camping was well looked after. Loved that there was a camp fire on each pitch. Shop/ bar was open until 9 and they both were very well stocked. We had breakfast there too and it was 5*, everything cooked nicely and fresh.

Tyckte om: A lovely quiet site, not too quiet though where you feel you can’t make any noise. Lovely pitches and gives a sense of privacy and seclusion. Can go for some lovely walks around the site & area. Children absolutely loved it and everyone seemed friendly enough. On a whole we had a great time and would definitely return!

Tyckte inte om: Only dislikes would be Showers could have been a bit more cleaner as we had to clean them before use. Also, there was quite a lot of dog poo in the maze which owners obviously hadn’t picked up, not the sites fault but I think it is something they should be aware of that people are doing and maybe check to stop children etc stepping in it. Washing machine also ended on a 28 min quick wash even though it’s a £1 for 30 mins, had to put in another 20p just to get the clothes out.

Tyckte om: Everything! Especially the privacy, beautiful setting, maze and on site helpful team. Excellent clean and modern toilets and showers. Wonderful site with private individual pitches ea H with firepits. Great little shop selling all the essentials, on site bar serving breakfast and lunch with pop up food trucks at weekends for evening meals. Pub is a barn / marque and there is an events space seperate which hosts covers bands. One covered 'pub garden' which is like a garden centre full of well looked after plants making it very comfortable for an evening drink settled from the weather. Great maze, and back to basics play areas for natural play (think Forrest school so build your own rope swings / slides, tree climbing) all in a safe and inclusive grounds. Our girls 9 and 13 loved it. Wonderful staff who helped us as first time campervan renters trying to figure our gas bottles. Very good for multi generation holidays.

Från föreståndaren: Hi Dan, I must apologise, when you checked in I gave you some confusing information about Bushcraft. Evergreen Wilderness do run Bushcraft sessions here on site, but the sessions have to be booked in advance and with them as it's not a regular set session. We haven't had this issue before, but I hope that the alterations will stop any future confusion.

The Secret Garden Touring Park is on Mile Tree Lane, between Wisbech and Wisbech St Mary, off Barton Road (B1101). Please enter Mile Tree Lane from the Wisbech direction. If travelling from the direction of Wisbech St Mary/Barton Road it is advised to go past the entrance of Mile Tree Lane and make a U-turn at the next junction (Panswell Lane on the next corner), in order to avoid this dangerous turning.

Wisbech, Cambridgeshire’s biggest town, is two and a half miles away and has a good selection of museums, shops and Georgian architecture to view (Dickens fans might recognise some of the town’s buildings from the Beeb’s adaptation of David Copperfield from 1999). Octavia Hill's birthplace house and museum, celebrating the many good deeds of this Wisbech woman, is also in the town, or you could reach heady heights at the Fenland and North Norfolk Aviation Museum to see aircraft and displays from across the ages. The National Trust’s Peckover House in Wisbech has great gardens (and croquet on the lawn), as does local brewery Elwood’s, with four acres of greenery as well as a maze to get lost in. Both the RSPB reserve at Ouse Washes in Manea and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney in Norfolk are within 15–20 miles if your whistle has been whetted by the wildlife watching on site at The Secret Garden; take a trip around the lakes of the Fens or east to the Norfolk Broads for more species spotting from boat and shore. Within driving distance for day trips you can also reach Cambridge and Ely to the south, Norwich to the east and the scenic seaside towns of Hunstanton, Wells-next-the-Sea and Sandringham to the north, or drive a little further to reach Skegness and Great Yarmouth.
